Things are really devolving tonight across the USA. Philly, New York and LA are ugly tonight. It will be interesting to see how long these protests last in terms of days and how law enforcement and the governments get this situation under control.
Yeah, I wonder if its just a weekend thing or is the US really about to go under a lot of turmoil due to these protests.
Lost in all of this is the fact that we're still in the midst of a global pandemic. hundreds of thousands of people in multiple cities protesting in close proximity to each other, with a lot of physical contact between themselves and the police. My guess is we'll be hearing about a major spike in cases over the next several weeks. That country is beyond f***ed.

Black on black crime is way below cops killing blacks on the give a #### scale. For everyone.
As a mixed dude with no real dog in this fight it just reeks. White people cant kill black people, thats for black people only. You see the same stuff with aboriginal crime in Canada. Aboriginals terrorize each other and so do other ethnic groups(im half Punjabi) and the brown on brown crime in Surrey/Abbortsford is equally horrid. But if a white guy kills a Brown/Black/FN person the community cares.

If Trump wins this November, Canada will be the next global power from the Americas. The US is already a 3rd world country. It's going to be 5th world if Trump gets re-elected.

No not a chance. Zero percent chance. Not with the way Canada views the economy and growth and businesses. America on its knees would still be 5x the power Canada will ever be because we won’t let ourselves reach our full potential.

It's the powerful killing the powerless that is the cause of the unrest.

Black, white, doesn't matter, a cop killing someone in that matter makes headline news every time.
The fact that it's yet another white cop on yet another black man is the reason for the protests and riots. But yes, it definitely makes the local news, obviously.
That's fantasy.
Even here in Finland cops get away with a hell of a lot. I have a ton of respect for our police, but I've heard from police themselves that beating up people who annoyed them is a thing that happens, even though if anyone ever filmed such a thing it would be massive news. In fact Finland has a pretty serious issue with people dying in police custody. Our deaths in police custody are about the same as in UK. Not per capita, total. UK has something like sixteen times our population.
But our cops are smart and well trained. They don't lose their temper if someones watching, and if there's no one watching, there are no consequences. Simple as that.
In fact, cellphone cameras and social media are why the issue has now blown up in the US. There was nothing unusual about the Rodney King beating other than it was caught on film. Just think about that for a second. For every case we now see on the news, there used to be a case with eyewitnesses.
Even with eyewitnesses, they used to get away with it. For decades. There is no reason to think that has changed.
If there's no pictures, there's no consequences.

Covid will wipe half of them out. Mother Nature will turn half the country into the Gobi.

A cop killing someone, getting charged with murder and manslaughter would make the local news.
That's what I was responding to. If Floyd was white and the exact same scenario played out, yes, it would make the local news.
State police are increasingly and purposedly targeting media and photographers with rubber bullets and tear gas. It's just odd to see, with police not doing themselves any favours whatsoever.

Until white people in the US start doing something more than looking at the news and sharing tweets while waiting for election day, the police can teargas all the reporters they like.
They don't need the people's sympathy, just their apathy.

I was actually impressed at most of the protestors seeming to be white from the feeds I have seen
