Wait, you're dismissing the findings of a medical examiner because he didn't find what you thought he would? That's pretty dumb. Or are you kidding? It's hard to tell.
I don't see why the ME has any reason to make #### up and risk his career in the process. Regardless, the police officers are directly responsible for his death, even if there were other contributing factors besides kneeling on him.

I really hope they have another ME come in and confirm these findings the public's faith in the system is so broken right now there is no way they are going to buy this..... I'm even having a hard time believing it
Im not a lawyer but wouldn't have your knee in someone's neck for 8 minutes or whatever which causes them to have a heart attack still be murder? I don't really see that as being disqualifying evidence.

Yeah, it's not like the whole case is lost. Of note is that even in the case of Eric Garner, the ME report did list strangulation as the cause of death and his obesity as only a contributing factor. A grand just chose not to indict the cop that strangled Garner. This does not bode particularly well for Floyd.
I wonder if they added the third-degree murder charge to satisfy people calling for it. It doesn't really seem to fit in this situation but maybe the D.A. has info I don't. Either way, the riots would be less likely to stop if he only got manslaughter, so it's possible it's a political decision.

It's all about what can be proven beyond reasonable doubt though. That's the standard in a court.
This preliminary report makes that harder im thinking, and likely why the charges laid were short of what most want to see.
See what the full autopsy concludes and go from there. That will take some time. This trial wont happen quickly.

I think the fact that it's Minnesota is a factor, what I'm seeing on Twitter from some legal folk is that it would have only been a manslaughter charge everywhere else but I guess the line is blurry between 3rd degree and manslaughter. I feel like a 2nd degree charge (that would have no chance) would be an appeasement charge.
Would it be normal to add “and any potential intoxicants in his system likely contributed”? How can an official report tag on something so vague and speculative along with saying it likely contributed?

Yeah, that struck me as a little presumptuous.

Sorry to be off topic but to go along with that John Oliver clip there was a decent Fifth Estate about Evan Matshes the former Alberta Chief Medical Examiner who had several questionable autopsy results that resulted in several peoples lives being ruined.
LAnd let's not forget that anything after those cops killed that man is directly tied to their responsibility. That's THEIR fault, not anyone else. Treat a human with compassion and none of this happens. None of it.
There will be, and he'll be suspended with pay without any further discipline after the investigation is complete. This is how things go in Murica when the cop is white and the victim is black.
If that happens the rioting and violence will worsen and over time will eventually subside...until the next time it happens. America is f’d.

Cops in ATL showing remarkable restraint.
Its surreal whats going on....a large presence of police inside the lobby of the CNN center which has all its windows smashed out and is covered in graffitti..."protesters" throwing rocks, smoke bombs whatever they can find at the police from about 1 feet away and no return force from authorities thus far.
Again tonight I have the news on in the background and I'm not paying a lot of attention but I think CNN might have just said that the National Guard has been overcome by protesters in Minneapolis tonight and even they have to back down tonight. That is wild.

I'm not sure about overcome but they said there were huge crowds well past curfew and no sign of any police or national guard.
