I doubt they mean to make it unintelligible. But when they are asked for so many autographs and they need to do it fast, penmanship is the first thing to go.
I recall after the Blue Jays won their 2nd World Series, Paul Molitor was still in TO and stopped for gas when he saw some autographed bats being sold with Olerud, Alomar and his own autographs. Problem was, he hadn't actually signed any of them. They caught the forgers but I'm sure there are truckloads of stuff out there like that where people think they are real but aren't real.
