Honestly I think it's bullsh*t and is just a lame excuse "piraters" use to justify stealing music.

I haven't bought a CD in nearly a year and maybe 3 CDs total in the past 4 years. I know exactly what I'm doing and I don't care.

At least I don't have to justify my habits.

To be honest, i've paid for this I never would've thought I would have because I had a chance to get it for free and to see/hear it for myself.

ive bought dozens of cd's because i downloaded them off the net first to see if they were any good....and most of these bands i would have never had the chance to hear of otherwise.

Same here. Well, maybe not dozens, but that has more to do with being poor right now.

In a way, p2p is good for music in general if not for the business. It makes it harder for musicians to dupe us. They can't just put one good song and a bunch of fluff on a CD any more and expect people to buy it. It seperates the artists from the people who are only in it to make money.

I'm the same way. I like to hear the stuff before I purchase it. I don't buy CD's anymore, but I still purchase the MP3 files from a Russian pay service. I still like to have the hi-fi sound files for my media server but only want to take up space with quality files. I'll listen to the free stuff at 64 or 128 bit rate and then purchase at 192. I think this works for everyone and still allows the artists to make a buck (if I like them).

It doesn't sound like they talked to "big" artists who are obviously hurt financially by file-stealing.

For example, if 5 million people downloaded that new U2 album for free, that's not going to hurt them? Maybe only a million of those 5 million would have bought it but still...

On the other hand I've read comments from other mainstreamers (Courtney Love and Chuck D I think) that basically read "the record company is really ripping me off worse than that so it's not an issue".

personally, I love the fact its the BIG media whore "artists" who are getting screwed, while the little guys are benefiting. For me, nothing could be more satisfying than screwing the Mariah Careys of the world and benefiting the Unicorns or Yann Tiersens.

They looked to be. I researched them for a couple of weeks before registering for their service. The most important things to me was a paper trail to prove I had paid for the tracks (even if minimal), that the business was licensed (which they are) and that all payments were through a trusted third party (which they were). They met got over the roadblocks and I've been pretty happy, being able to find almost everything that I want.

I looked into that Russian one a while back too after reading about them in Wired, and it all looked legit.

They also gave the music in many different formats that the other services didn't offer, including 320kb MP3's and lossless FLAC compreession.

It's legal in Canada thats all I need. I'm not losing over any sleep over ripping off multimillion dollar artists. The only albums I'll buy are Tupac albums (30% goes to his charities) and other CD's by artists that I like that go towards charities.

I doubt I've bought a CD from a music store in 7 years, probably since, well long before napster, I was using private ftp sites for years prior to napster to get music files. I'd guess sometime before 1997.

TV shows, movies, everything, xbox games.

You see that VH1 show, which makes me puke and I turn it off, "the fabulous life of" said artist... and it's pretty funny how much money they waste. , which, makes my money seem all that much more precious.

I don't feel bad, I won't stop until someone down the street gets sued..
and by then I'll probably be using something different.
