You had me happy there for a sec!

From my perspective – St Loo asked for a centre and a bottom-six winger. Bonino is very underrated and honestly doesn't get enough credit as Nashville's 2C. Thrun is an excellent prospect from Harvard. And it saves St Loo about 2.25 million in cap space.

Suter is making 10 mil. He’s a good player but that’s negative value. Bonino is a great CPHL player being good offensively and defensively. St loo gets younger.

Gets a yes from me

Suter has a max contract but is still a number 1 d and put up good stats last year
St Loo doesn’t even save a lot of money here

Yeah, Captain called Suter a 3rd pairing Dman earlier. I was surprised. I think he may be getting undervalued.

I haven't been able to get anything at all for Staal who is an awfully similar player with an identical contract. Bonino is a real solid get at centre and St Loo gets two future assets out of it. You could call Perry a dump but he had perfectly serviceable stats last year.

But I think the most important thing here is the redistribution of cap for St Louis. Instead of having ten million tied up in one big asset that was set to walk for nothing after this coming season they have 2.25 freed up entirely, 5 tied up in a marginally less valuable asset that fills a positional need and 2.5 allocated to a slightly overpaid player who nevertheless also fills a positional need

St Louis had a somewhat precarious cap situation and I've found that in dealing with mine, moving big contracts for more manageable smaller contracts, even if they have less value on paper, results in a more valuable team in the long run

I think St Louis could have found a bigger return for Suter than this, but it isn't awful.

And re Scorpion return, I would agree it is easier to move multiple smaller contracts than one large one.

Yeah, when I saw that deal, I wanted to break up the Suter contract, and I still had solid pieces on the blueline. What sold me on Bonino more then anything is he has solid stats defensively and physically, he's a replacement in case I can't resign Backlund due to cap, plus he's decent scoring wise. I don't mind Perry on my bottom 6 with that contract, though his stats aren't great, he has nice strength stats which should translate into puck retrieval. Plus he's a jerk. Thrun is a decent defense prospect, with Harvard, he's a good puck mover, and supposedly a solid defensive mind. This moves me to about 13 million in cap space with 7 RFAs to sign, so it gives me some space to play with.

Also when I looked at my blueline assets, I have McDonagh, Graves, Dun and Mayfield, which are all pretty useful
