Moving to a Mac
http://www.cbc.ca/news/background/tech/moving-mac.html
Interesting article on the pros AND cons of a long-time Windows user trying out a Mac. I'm not trying to start a Windows vs. Mac debate because those are pointless, its just an interesting article and a lot of people who have never used a Mac don't fully understand how wonderful they really are!

There definitely are a lot of cons to using a Mac as with any machine, but honestly, none of them are big enough to make me regret switching even a little.
I agree with the author when he says the difference between the Pc and Imac is measured in degrees. The same bad things happen on the Mac as they do on a PC, they are just more subtle and don't **** you off quite as much.

Interesting article about a hardcore mac-user switching to Vista for a few months. I've used Macs a bit, I think Microsoft would really have to **** me off before I considered switching. Windows Millenium almost did it.

I too am a mac user, and couldn't see myself switching for anything...
I've had waaayyyy too many times, when I had to do a complete reinstall on windows, but not once with my mac.

Will Vista make up much of that difference though. I was playing around with vista at best buy and it felt like a carbon copy of a mac.

^ Seems like a dangerous move on microsofts part.
The more familiar an Apple style operating system is to PC users the more likely they are to switch...
Interesting to see Apple using Intel chips and Microsoft using Apple layouts. What is going on?!

The biggest problem with Macs, is that they are way too expensive. A mac comparable to the PC I just bought would cost 3 times as much!

"Comparable", of course, being a fairly relative term here. If your understanding of comparatives is only measured in terms of mHz, RAM, disc space, etc., then I would agree that this is a problem.
Yes, Mac's are expensive, but in my experience, the comparables between the functionality of Mac's and PC's is much more akin to comparing the quality/price of Chryslers with BMWs.
I switched from Mac to PC almost a decade ago, and nothing has caused me to regret this decision.

i find the entire mac / pc debate pretty moot as they don't compare at all favourably with each other in the strengths.
what i find interesting is that many people i know have both for specific purposes.
people that have websites or do graphics / video editing have macs, and people that require cheap horsepower for games or hardcore drafting use pcs.
friends of mine that did website design used a g4 mac laptop for all their graphics / video editing even though it wasn't a powerhouse. rock-solid and didn't crash. but that's pretty much all they bought it for, and these guys are the most hardcore pc maniacs i know.

I have both...PC for gaming and mac for when my PC crashes. Lately I've just skipped waiting for my PC to crash as I and in love with how smooth my mac operates. I've had it for 7 months and have yet to do a minute of maintainance to do...that includes having to restart cause of a freeze. AND theres no blue screen

I spent $399US on a Compaq with 1 gb/ram, dual core processor, 250 gb hard drive, DVD burner, 13 in 1 media reader.
I use the free software (Pinnacle movie studio) to edit high definition movies, quickly and with no problems.
Show me a comparable mac that is less than $1200.

Many people buy a mac and install Windows onto them since Macs run on PC architecture these days .

I call BS on this. I'm sorry but editing videos let alone HD videos takes huge amounts of stuff to recompile the video etc. Theres a reason video editing PCs cost a buttload.

One thing that often goes unmentioned in these debates is the display. The quality of the Mac display is IMO (as a person in an industry where image quality is paramount) unmatched by virtually any other monitor out there.
Maybe I am biased (and i am) but personally I think getting an Imac with that amazing level of display-quality, in such a small compact package, for around a grand is a great deal.

Yup, Apple gets first pick at panels.
You can edit HD video in iMovie. Pinnacle Studio you can not according to their website.

Those display panels (the Apple Cinema Displays) are actually made by LG Phillips and are the same panels used in some Dell displays as well (the UltraSharp line, to be precise).
