Brathwaite was a good story for sure, but Tanguay was an impact player in Calgary for two stints and gets my vote.

I omitted Leopold as he only wore the number for 19 games.

This one is actually pretty tricky although I have a feeling where it is going to go

Freddie! was such a breath of fresh air for the team during the mid-end of the dark years, arriving during the 'year of a million goalies' and providing stability and excitement for the next couple years before being packaged up for Turek. a real fan favorite around town

Tanguay was a bit more polarizing, often left you wanting more but hard to ignore his sublime skills especially as a passer, was targeted as a man to bring back to many's surprise. played most of 5 seasons here, and usually ended up as a top 2 or 3 scorer on the club...if only he'd shoot more. I think he gets a bit of a bad rap even if he's an imperfect player

in the end I chose length of tenure, hence Tanguay

Nichol not a horrible 3rd choice given the recent numbers around here

My vote has to go to Tanguay. An excellent passer who was a great compliment to Iginla.

Any of #40 options would have been good for some of the previous numbers.

I like to check out the stats for the guys in these polls, and I noticed something interesting: Scott Nichol played 662 games over 13 seasons in the NHL and played for 6 different teams in that time. As far as I can tell, he was never traded. Every time he changed teams was as a free agent signing.

That has to be close to an NHL record for most teams played for without ever being traded.

I just wish Tanguay would have shot more instead of telegraphing the fact he was passing the puck 99.9% of the time. He would have been a much more effective player had he done that.

Other than that, no complaints about Tangs and was a very high end player here for many years. He gets my vote.

But I certainly loved me some Brathwaite back in the day. Just wasn't here long enough.

#40 and #12 were such a treat to watch together. Tanguay gets my vote.

Loved Brathwaite and wasn't a big fan of sulking Tanguay. Still had to vote Tanguay, just a much better resume.

I'm predicting that Nichol will get a vote.

You could say that prediction is a lock.

I went Brathwaite because he was one of very few bright lights during a pretty awful period for the Flames.

This is one I've eyeballed all along as one of the toughest choices. Both players I was a big fan of during their stint in Calgary.

I remember my excitment around bringing in Tanguay as he was one of my favorites outside of Calgary at the time.

Brath on the other hand was one of those happy surprises and had some of the all time highlight saves in Flames history.

I honestly can't explain why, but I'm going with Freddy purely because he was the first one I thought of when thinking about 40

I had to pick Tanguay, although I was very much NOT a fan of his for most of his tenure. He was extremely one dimensional, and frankly, overrated in that realm.

There's a reason that Huselius came in and became the team's #1 playmaker, so much so that Iggy pushed to have him on his line over Tanguay. Tanguay definitely seemed pouty and less and less effective in a diminished role.

Still he was a high talent player, that likely falls into the conversation of flames top 10 LWs ever, perhaps?!

Really wanted to pick Freddie, but had to pick Tangs instead.

oh I'd think so

for all forwards in a Flames uniform he's 28th in GP, the guys I would call LW ahead of him being Pepper, Roberts, Johnny, Glencross, Patterson, Stillman and Ranheim

for points he is 19th all time across all forward positions, the LWs ahead of him I think are Roberts, Johnny and Pepper

Clearly Tkachuk, on neither list would zoom past him, but he's a top 10 LW (Calgary)Flames edition I'd say

Tanguay.

Freddie though....what a fun little stretch that was!

Tanguay was the more talented player, but Brathwaite has the better story in the history of Flames lore. His play is something worth remembering and sharing stories of, whereas Tanguay for me is not that worth remembering or retelling stories of.

I remember sitting in the lounge after a ball hockey game and seeing Freddie had shut out the Stars (a powerhouse at the time). And was smiling ear to ear.
It was such a relief as it was the season of a thousand goalies and poof we had a "real" goalie again.

Tangs was just an amazing talent though had to go with him.
