The Fleury deal still seems so odd to me. If I recall the Flames had to choose between Martin Skoula, Regehr, Scott Parker, and Ramzi Abid. The Flames apparently wanted Tanguay, who was held out of those selections. I wanted Skoula, and was petrified they would take Parker. Instead they picked Regehr who I was luke warm on.
But what a player: one of my all time favorites.

Skoula would have been ok. Parker... you're right, disastrous.
Reggie is the definite choice here. Otto for sure tomorrow I think but Engelland holds a near and dear place in my heart.

Its going to take a hell of a lot by Lindholm to make me forget what Regehr did in that 04 run. He is one of the last of that tough stay at home defenders.
Lindholm is a really good player but 04 Regehr was a warrior. Was really happy to see him win the Cup.

I did not look it up, but didn't Regehr break a leg (both?) in a car accident around that time too?
I voted for RR. Just loved that rough and tumble D-man type that you hated to see on the ice at the same time as you.

while I take the premise of your point they actually followed up the 84 draft with a Hall of Famer in Nieuwendyk in 85 and a HOF talent in Fleury in 87...but yes, then........

Yup, after the Flames acquires him from Colorado, Regehr broke both his legs in a car accident.
