you kinda knew it was going to be Matthews for the current player, but the better option may have been to name Marner at RW (bump Lanny who is already listed as a foundational player elsewhere) and then slot Sittler in as the 3C. Sittlers tenure with TOR definitely deserved a look

I’m surprised there’s no Tie Domi. Not because he’s any good, he’s terrible, but more because of the weird infatuation that franchise and those fans have had for that dude over the years.

Wow, this truly shows why the Leafs have been as unsuccessful as they have been over the very many decades.

I hope they continue this series and do it for non-Canadian teams too.

Is Gilmour not one of the greatest Leafs?

He’d have to be better than Apps or Sundin and I’d say no. I suppose you could argue he could be on the checking line but Keon deserves that IMO.

He would be on the team if it want for this necessity of having a current player.

Sittler would still be ahead of Gilmour if you took Matthews off the team.

How are they approaching Winnipeg? Is it going to be the two iterations of the jets combined? Or is it the thrashers/jets franchise?

I'm usually a purist for the franchise concept- but that seems to be to be a bit against the spirit of the exercise- as I presume these are for the benefit of Canadian team fanbases- I would think the idea that would make more sense is to do the 2 Winnipeg based iterations

Even if you combine the two versions of the Jets, it's still only 26 total seasons, which is the fewest of all the Canadian teams. Just including the current incarnation cuts that down to 9 seasons, which isn't much of an "All Time" list at all.

If they include the original Jets, I wonder if they'll include the original Senators as well?

here is Steve Simmons' suggestions. its a rant, and its Simmons, but intriguing

he sneaks Rielly in on D, boots Mathews and then works both Sittler and Gilmour in

What I find to be the funniest thing is all the TSN people defending this (and Price being on the Habs ahead of Roy) by saying "the rules said we had to include a current-roster player".

They're completely arbitrary rules that you guys made up for yourselves, just like the "checking line" requirement. I don't think you get to throw yourself behind the "just following the rules" defence when you needlessly handicapped yourselves with those rules.

Yes, I realize they did that specifically to generate more arguments and traffic and this is exactly what they wanted.

LOL TSN just wanting a pat on the back from the historians and the blue hairs for name dropping. It's like Dick Irvin picked this team...well, his dad did coach 2 of the guys in the 30s.

Guys who played in 1929 (this was the first year where you could make a forward pass anywhere on the ice) like Conacher and Jackson are mascots to showcase and boast about how long a history the Leafs have, nothing else.

You would have to be 100 years old now to have seen and remember those guys play and those tall fishing tales about how great those guys were would have to hold over non existent film of their time there.

The Leafs won 1 Stanley Cup in the 30s, so it's not as if those 2 guys were part of a dynasty. They have 1 more Cup then the likes of Bill Derlago, Dan Daoust and Rick Vaive.

And if we are name dropping crappy 80s Leafs, may as well throw Wilf Paiement in there...he wore number 99 the same time Gretzky did. Just imagine the butt hurt now if that was to happen, and Oiler fans no less, who were likely seething at the time even though it was early in Wayne's career.

Brodie wore 66 in his rookie exhibition season and the social media babies were hand wringing about him wearing the number in the regular season and thus pissing all over Lemiuex's legacy.

On Twitter on Tuesday, Button confirmed that they will be including both versions of the Jets (including the WHA) and the original Senators that predate the forward pass. He also confirmed that they'll be doing a team for the Nordiques as well.

I'm surprised people are surprised there was needles controversy and glaring omissions. These types of social media exercises are what they are these days.

You either make it controversial so everyone rages and debates online, or you don't and everyone moves on without much care.

He was crazy popular.

Wish I'd kept my "Clear the Track for Eddie Shack" lunch box.

Still have the hockey card though.
