would you mind elaborating? I have a son playing football in the AUS - Usports. If thats true he'll probably take a semester off. I would assume that no Football means no scholarship for him. That would suck but I would agree that football and Rugby are most likely to be cancelled.

Great news, excited to see how MEP does in the pro’s next year. Had an excellent college career especially considering where he got drafted. Glad for his development he went pro

I like it. I have a feeling he is going to be one of those draft low and trend upward into top line guys. From almost everything I have ever read about Emilio, his work ethic on and off the ice second to no one.

And that usually translate into top tier talent. Especially with his skillset.

Wouldn't it be great one day to bring back the 'O's on the stadium ring for Emilio like was done for Hakan Loob?

....and I was like "EMILIOOO!!!"

Can't believe that movie was 1998, 2 years before he was born.

Seems like a great deal, good for the kid (and us, OFC). Excited to see how he does!

per Capfriendly his contract breaks down as follows:

year 1: $800k base salary + $32.5k performance bonus + $92.5k signing bonus
year 2: $800k base salary + $32.5k performance bonus + $92.5k signing bonus
year 3: $832.5k base salary + $92.5k signing bonus

Based on my quick scanning this is the highest base salary ELC that the Flames have given to a non-first round pick since they signed Jon Gillies out of college who got 3 years x $832.5k plus bonuses.

Athletic article...good work by Cruikshank.

Quote:
“It definitely took a lot of thinking,” Pettersen said, who turned 20 earlier this month. “But my judgment and the decision I made, I’m really happy with.”

He acknowledges that there had been an opportunity for him to turn pro a year earlier. That scenario, though, he’d barely considered.

“I needed some maturity, just physically, and another year was perfect for me,” Pettersen said. “I wanted to win a national championship. Obviously, that’s not what panned out. But we had a good run and a great team.”

“Yeah, I feel I’ve definitely developed quickly,” said the 5-foot-10, 182-pounder. “I always felt that I had a little more to give. These last two years I feel like I’ve not maxed out on my potential, but I’ve gotten to express more of it.”

“I like to think that I make my teammates better,” he said. “If you put me with any player, I’m going to work as hard as I can to give him the puck. I’m a hard-working player that gets what he earns.

“If I’m not working hard, then I’m not going to get the puck — and the opposite.”

From afar, he’s always admired the likes of Jonathan Huberdeau and Sidney Crosby.

“I wouldn’t say I’m anything like those players,” Pettersen said, “but you look up to those guys. You want to be like them, right?

“Come October, I want to be in my best shape and I want to just do me and do what I’ve always done — work hard. You’ll earn what you get.”

I spoke to a friend of mine in Norway yesterday, and he said the story of Pettersen's contract made the national news.

Have to wonder if more college guys that were hinting at returning for years 3 or 4 will sign contracts and come out with the covid mess.

Better to get a contract done and have more leash then have a season canceled, lose development time and risk the contract a year or two out.

So many short guys!
This is a big reason why we need to keep guys like Bennett, and even Lucic, around. I feel a lot better giving guys like Phillips and Petterson chances in the bottom 6 with Bennett acting like a wrecking ball and Lucic laying down the law.

I also can't wait to see physical right wingers Martin Pospisil & Eetu Tuulola get their chance up in the big show too!

5'10" 182 not that small for a kid. He's probably pretty thick already. Pretty similar dimensions to Brad Marchand and will only get bigger.
