Wow bikes are going fast on Kijiji and FB Marketplace right now! Trying to get a bike for my partner and they're going in an hour or two of posting, for the good quality ones. She hasn't ridden a bike in 15 years, so we're going the used route in case she decides it is not for her.

This could also go in the Morons of the Pandemic thread, but only this audience will likely understand.

Check at Bow Cycle, they often have a used selection that have been tuned up. I found great value there.

Went tot he bike shop yesterday and stood in line at 11 with the intention of getting a new bike. Grew tired of waiting and left. Went back first thing this morning and left with a trek checkpoint alr5.
When I left I’d imagine the lineup to get in was two hours at least

Nice! Those Checkpoint's look great. I keep looking at them whenever I'm at the bike shop.
I want the bronze:

Has anyone tried adapting a through-axle to a quick release using non OEM adapters before?
I picked up a Race Face wheel the other day that comes with these little adapters that slip over either side of the 15mm through-axle, reducing it to 9mm (accepting a standard 5mm QR skewer). Unfortunately, the adapters don't fit - I think they were supposed to go with the rear wheel and I've got the front one.
I was looking at this thing as a possible alternative:
Basically it's a tube you slip into the 15mm axle, reducing the opening on either end to accommodate a 5mm skewer.
I think it should work, but I also don't want to faff around too much with the way the wheel attaches to the bike (which is kind of important). Wondering if anyone has had experience with this before.

Took the checkpoint out for its maiden voyage this afternoon and was stunned how easy it was to cruise at 35 with the wind. Felt like I had a a few more mph in the tank easy.
Wierd getting used to the narrow handle bar, and the shifterson the brake levers and then remembering which lever did what....need to dial in the seat position as I like my seat with a bit of an upward tilt at the nose....and the clip less pedals were set to almost death setting.
Tomorrow I am going to clean up my commuter and take a few keeper parts off of it and get it listed on Kijiji, Facebook, pink bike

Anybody else able to ride a lot more during quarentine? I'm loving the empty roads and pathways. And being able to work from home is great for doing a short ride at lunch then a longer ride after work.
I'm thinking I'll be able to get in a modest 200 kms per week. Monday, my crank fell off which derailed (pun intended) my intentions but I'm already at 131 kms for this week, just need to do some 69 tomorrow and we're golden.

I've definitely been able to get out more this week now that the weather is cooperating. I'm trying to switch up my routes so I'm not doing the same kms every day. I might hit 400km this week, which will be an abnormal for the rest of the year but I'm just happy to be off the trainer.

If you're looking to get out of the city and ride some quiet roads, I did a great ride today. 90% non-highway riding. Quiet country roads. Lots of rolling hills. Tree-lined farms.
It'd be even better in a month when the trees haves leaves and the wind isn't ridiculous.

They're all paved roads. 10-20% are that older, bumpy paved stuff that's a little annoying but easy enough to get past when you're not dealing with cars or having to stick to the shoulders.

So this morning I stripped down my commuter rig and listed it on both Facebook and Kijiji and I was just slammed with responses. A couple of them were ridiculous low ballers.
One guy was annoyed with me because he was apparently on his way over, and another guy bought it.
Makes me wonder if had priced too low.
Went out this afternoon for a 40 spin. Changed my route to deal with the wind for most of the first half. Now that most of my yard work is done, I can try and focus on getting out early in the day when there is little wind.

knocked out my first 200+km week in I don't know how long. Knee is ####, but I'm pedaling through the discomfort for now. Feels good to get outside again after the seemingly never ending winter.

Dusted off the roadbike and took it for a 20K rip this AM. Actually felt pretty good for not being on one for almost a decade.
I live out in Okotoks, is there any good rides out here that a) are on a road with a decent shoulder and b) aren't ridiculously challenging? Something 20-30k?
What do you guys carry for tools? Basic multi with a patch kit? Carry it in a Camelbak? Seat post bag? Any suggestions?
What about riding in town or on secondary hiways? Ride close to the shoulder as possible on the hiways and let cars figure it out? When I lived in Calgary I used to ride in the middle of the lane in town, and ride the shoulder on faster roadways. Just wondering if that's still the way to go? Not to open a can of worms.....but I'm curious what people think here.
And do I really HAVE to wear gear that makes it look like I just came off the Tour?

I wear a jersey because they are comfortable and have less wind resistance, but I'm still a baggy short over spandex guy. Plain jerseys can be found.
I hate riding with a pack, so I have a small saddlebag with a tube, patch kit, multi-tool, tire leavers and co2 inflator. I also have a pump, make sure it can go to high pressures, the mtb ones can't usually. I also have a triangle frame bag for snacks and a light jacket.
Always ride as far to the right as possible, you never know when someone isn't paying attention, or is an angry a-hole with a sad, depressing life.
