I remember that game. I didn't like it much then and I still don't.

Regarding the all-star voting... How did McKegney get so many votes? It's not like it was easy to arrange a vote ala John Scott back in those days. He wasn't some scrub but he certainly wasn't a top notch all-star.

I think the first trick was just to get on the ballot. With only 8 slots available for each forward position, that wasn't even enough for the top line player from each of the 10 Campbell Conference teams.

Also, sorry to hear you're still harboring bad feelings about a mid-season game from 32 years ago. Then again, I'm still angry about a game from April 6, 1974, but let's not get into that.... coughBobTaylorcough. I'm assuming it would be WAY too obscure of a reference.

Ha! This made me laugh. Curious, what about this game in particular triggers your memory? Does seem sort of random but I can absolutely relate. Looking back on things, I'll always remember that game against Vegas a few years back where we choked up a two goal lead with like 2 mins to play--I remember just sitting on my couch staring at the screen questioning everything and asking myself "is this (stress) really worth it?".

Former flame John Tonelli getting a hat trick against us? I mean, how dare he!

I don't know, I remember being mad and when I saw it in this thread I thought "Oh, this game!".

looks like some classic vote splitting

Robitaille running away with it
then Simpson and Tikkanen split the EDM vote
Klima and Gallant split the Detroi(n)t vote
he only had to beat out Skriko and Ashton as it turned out

pretty lame group of choices anyways

Wow. This story about Anderson is super sad and a little shady as well. Was there more to this? Anyone have memories of this? How exactly does one 'fall asleep' in a pool?

The only memories I have (and I assume just about anybody else has) was what was reported. The only thing I do remember is that Anderson always had a rocky relationship with the media and it sort of colored anything going on with him. It took him 13 years to get elected to the Hall Of Fame, which seems like a long time considering his credentials. The matter is addressed a little bit in this story from 2008 when he was finally elected.

I remember there were a whole host of rumours about Anderson - probably too salacious to repeat here - before he came out with this story. The Oilers were renowned for their partying.

Man, looking back on it, it's pretty crazy that teams agreed to these exhibition matchups during the middle of the season. If I remember they did them the following year as well. Does anyone remember if there were any major league-wide injuries from these games? Can you imagine if Vernon or Mullen got hurt during one of these games?

Would need to research it for specifics but my general memory is yes.
One more recent injury that jumps out is John Tavares suffering torn knee
ligaments at the 2014 Sochi Olympics for Team Canada. I suppose it's a little
different when you're playing an extended tournament with the cachet of the
Olympics than if it happens in a truly meaningless out-of-the-blue exhibition
against a Dynamo Riga team that nobody has ever really heard of, but for
an Islanders' fan with no allegiance to Team Canada it must have felt like the
same thing.

Maybe it will come up in the remaining 12 games of this tour, I'm only
reading one game ahead when I prepare the posts and haven't looked at them in
over a decade, so I've been just as surprised when things happen too.

man despite the Flames being on a bit of a slide, they are so deep that they are scratching Mark Hunter who at that point in his career was a 30-40 goal man, and they are scrambling for a way to call up Fleury, all the while Lanny is sitting around too..talked about spoiled by depth! on D Ric Nattress is basically waiting to break someone's ankle so he can get some playing time

Still can't get over how Ranheim never really panned out for us as the goal scorer he was touted to be. I think he put up around 60 goals that year for SLC. I seem to remember someone on here saying that he got hurt in the 91 season and never really regained his confidence and really became a PK guy the rest of his career.
