My autographed refrigerator made this choice pretty obvious.

One of my all-time favourites and the first name I ever got on a jersey (at least partly because they used to charge by the letter and OTTO was a lot shorter than NIEUWENDYK).

your autographed refrigerator could have been the Flames 4th line center in the early 00s

#28 - Regehr (Lindholm)
FIRST
Roberts Nieuwendyk Iginla
Gaudreau Monahan Mullen
Tkachuk Backlund Fleury
Pepper Conroy Lanny

(the rest)

MacInnis Gio
Suter Sarge
Regehr Phaneuf
(..)

Turek
- So Reggie makes his way in. the 6th D was a hard choice (Phaneuf versus Housley versus Hamilton) they all left on meh terms but one of the tiebreakers for me is homegrown talent and his peak performance was probably the highest. in reality there are 3 other names that likely deserve to be in Flames all time top 6 ahead of him (at least 2) but they didn't/won't win their numbers

SECOND
Huselius Nilsson Loob
Cammalleri Jokinen Hudler
Tonelli Langkow Lindholm
Plett Yelle Hunter

Reinhart Brodie
Bouw Musil
Albelin Sarich

Riggin
- ok here I think these forwards are ok- enigmatic but all world talent first line, secondary scoring from the 2nd line, a 3rd line that you could put up against anyone and a vintage 4th line. was challenging to exclude Stillman- he had a longer tenure than the 3 2nd liners but I think that group was all more productive (era adjusted). same with Huselius but I like the Swede line- open to suggestion on Stillman!

suspect Otto will be the right answer for a long time (?forever?) and that is with all hope that Dube has a nice career

I guess for now 2nd is Engelland or Noodles?

anyways Otto. man talking about throwing away the mold. Unless you were around at the time it would be hard to picture the way Fletcher just picked up these college guys year after year and inserted them seamlessly into the lineup but this was the gold standard (Suter being drafted and not a FA). Big, tough on the faceoffs, big, could score, did I say big? centered the first line to a cup final in 86 before settling in as a 3rd liner (the best?) behind 2 HOFers by the time the team was at its peak

Had to be Otto.

Speaking of Noodles who is also on the list though, one of my favorite memories is when he got on in the 2007 playoffs towards the end of the game, slashes Franzen and gets ejected/penalty just a few minutes in.

For Engelland, it obviously is the way he stepped up after Giordano got injured in 2015. Also that iconic moment of him taking on 2 canucks during the playoffs

Almost like it was drawn up that way. It was seconds into the puck drop after he entered the game. Kipper didn’t even take off his bucket or gloves.

Joel Otto is one of my top 3 favorite Flames of all time. This may have been the easiest decision I had to make.

Also, it's good to see that Locke has a friend in his continuous protest vote of "I'm going to pick the absolute worst name on this list!"

Cale Hulse....Jesus, just hearing that name makes me cringe.

I was sad for Locke when Anders Eriksson wasn't up for vote. Not sure picking the likes of David Hale and Cale Hulse instead will be as satisfying to him.

and even at that I'm trying to remember if 29 was Hulse's primary number? I think of him (in my nightmares) as 32

you're right. Hockeydb says he wore 29 in 95-96 (3 games) and 96-97 (63 games), then switched to 32 (211 more games).

Nick Kroll, of Big Mouth and Kroll Show fame, posted this picture back on Father's Day 2017 of himself as a kid wearing a Joel Otto jersey with his dad.

There's also a great line from the recurring "Wheels, Ontario" (Degrassi parody) bit from Kroll show: "Don’t think it’s OK to just roll in here at 100 kilometres per hour like you’re Joel Otto of the Calgary Flames".

I'm with you, brother. Otto is easily a top 3 or 4 Flame for me. I appreciate him so much more now than I did 10 or 15 years ago too--not sure why? Maybe as his style of play is a complete lost art now. Guy was such a beast--the perfect 3C.
