This is very similar to the #19 vote for me. Two solid players from two different eras. For that one, Tkachuk hasn't quite been around long enough to dethrone Hunter. For this one, I think Monahan has done enough to surpass Reinhart, but it's close.

Call me when Monahan helps this team accomplish anything more then a early 1st or 2nd round drop out.
For me, Monahan was the best thing to happen to this franchise between 2010 and 2013/14. With Iginla and Bouwmeester getting shipped off, Cammalleri past his prime, and Kipper retiring, Monahan was the only real bright light. Came in as a rookie, made the team, and started contributing immediately.

He also still leads the entire 2013 NHL draft class in goals scored. And if you’re going to pin playoff success on a single player, he has the same number of series wins as the first overall pick that year, Nathan McKinnon.

I opened this thread thinking, "this is obviously Gelinas." Then I scanned the list, saw Monny at the bottom, voted for him that was the end of it.

Weird how I completely associate #23 with Gelinas, but didn't even blink while voting for Monahan.

Edit: I forgot Reinhart wore 23. I really liked him when I was kid. I remember thinking he was a winger for the longest time. Then he was a Canuck, and that was the end of that.

I voted for Monahan, though he rightly faces criticism, when it's all said and done his name will be near the top of a lot of statistical categories.
But if someone asks me who I think of when you say #23 - it is Gelinas. That's where my brain goes to.

Gelinas was a Canuck as well.. does this mean that Monahan will be a Canuck in the future?

Reinhart was traded to the Canucks at the start of the 88-89 season, and, IIRC, the rationale was that although when healthy, he was still one of the Flames’ best defensemen, it was likely he would not be able to play a full season. Because of his uncertain health, keeping him would mean he would have to be a spare part on the roster, even if he was a better player than the bottom tier of defense or the 4th line centre. But trading him (and Steve Bozek) to a divisional rival for a wasted 1989 3rd round draft pick, has to rate as one of Fletcher’s worse trades.
