Islanders acquire Lehner, Schmidt

The New York Islanders announced today that they have traded goaltender Connor Hellebuyck to the Oilers in exchange for goaltender Robin Lehner and winger Brock McGinn.

The Islanders have also acquired defenseman Nate Schmidt from the Oilers in exchange for a 1st and a 3rd. The 1st will be sent by next Friday (we have one lined up in another trade).

We feel like we've fleeced the Oilers on the same day as we fleeced the Devils. I like Lehner more than Hellebuyck and getting McGinn on top of that is gravy. Schmidt was killer for the Knights this year and will be our #1 defenseman.

I'm happy with the deals. Definitely wouldn't say the Isles fleeced us. Wouldn't say I fleeced either though.

Lehner and McGinn for Hellebuyck seems good to me, Hellebuyck played 20 more games and they had similar stats. Hellebuyck is also younger so adding a 4th liner like McGinn doesn't upset me. Lehner has been great for me all these years but the Jets are my 2nd team and I'm ecstatic to acquire Hellebuyck.

Schmidt for a 1st and a 3rd seems fair, maybe he's worth a bit more but with a lot of teams selling, I don't think I could've got much more (some teams weren't willing to pay more than a 2nd). Needed to get rid of someone for cap purposes and we determined Schmidt was the guy. We will miss him.
