The Quest stands upon the edge of a knife. Stray but a little, and it will fail, to the ruin of all. Yet hope remains while the Company is true. Go Flames Go!
I was in junior high. My older sister had a bunch of students/friends from South America that were up here for studies and primarily soccer/football fans over. She didn't care for the game but they were loosely following the playoff hype which was just starting to build and course they knew next to nothing about hockey. They sat down to take in the game as and as it wore on they were suddenly fully on the rollercoaster with us, and at the end everybody leaped up and jumped and danced in celebration. It was on another level taking it in with these football fans suddenly invested in the team.
Really special spring.

When they won that series, that was pretty much my Stanley Cup. I hated the Nucks so much back then, so beating them was so incredibly delicious (and in their own barn no less). I remember thinking the Flames would likely get destroyed by Detroit, and I was ok with that. Little did I know...
Totally, same feeling. That Detroit series felt like a bonus round. Or a side quest.
I didn't see the goal live...I was watching the game with buds up on Signal Hill. When the Canucks tied it I quietly got on my coat and left. My friends asked me what I was doing and I said "I've seen this before, and I can't handle seeing it again".
I drove home with the radio off, and when I hit 17th ave and 4th Street, some Flames fans started to run out to the street - at this point there was no Red Mile. At first I was confused, because the idea that the Flames might have won, just didn't seem possible. But I turned on the radio to hear that indeed they had.
It's not the first time I missed an OT goal. I also didn't watch game 7 overtime when Otto scored.
I did make it up by seeing Gelinas eliminate Detroit live at the Dome.
It still pisses me off when I see that jersey hit the ice, Iggy get his stick chopped, and then trip over it - just an abomination of officiating.

Just caught up and watched the OT, and a couple things i forgot
- That PP was pretty awful overall
- Gelinas and Iggy played the entire PP?
- I forgot Yelle was out there, probably for defensive reasons as it was winding down, and was the one that put a shot on net that lead to the rebounds
So many little things you forget.

I was at game 6 vs. Detroit as well. When they scored the OT goal I jumped up so high and so quickly, I almost lost my footing and fell into the row in front of us. To this day I've never heard the Dome so loud. Not just in OT, but also during the pre-game. The "Go Flames Go" chant right before puck drop was incredible.
Here's a poor quality video of it, which doesn't quite do it justice. It was absolutely deafening in that building.

I was there too. Lost my voice before the national anthem.

Beating the Canucks in GM Place was total revenge from a decade earlier. Yep, gotta agree that the Red Wings series was a side quest. Going against the Sharks in the next round was a chance for revenge from 9 years earlier. I've hated the Sharks because of Whitney scoring the double OT winner. That was an absolute nightmare, 2 straight years of losing game 7 in OT. Felt so good seeing the Flames beat them.
My parents were so disgusted with the tying goal that they got ready and went to bed. Me and my sister stayed up to continue watching of course.
As my mom tells it, they were in the middle of their evening prayer when they heard us going ballistic and they both jumped up and ran down the stairs to join the celebration.

I lived in Vancouver at this time, going to radio school and playing in a band. my roommate had seasons tickets and I'd been to the other Van home games. I had already booked a night of work being on a file sharing (lol, Napster) panel in Whistler with an old CBC host who I knew would have a say in whether or not my practicum there turned into a job. so, I had to turn down the ticket.
all during my panel meeting (attended by maybe 15 old white ladies) I could hear them setting up for a film festival in the next room with a system and projector blasting the game. as we ended I raced into the room and stood around with a bunch of dudes watching. they were nice, and when Gelly scored I went ape####. I walked up and down the streets of Whistler in my blasty jersey high fiving other flames fans (I mean, like the three I saw).
I showed up to work on the morning show the next day still in my jersey and was told "that's not very nice" by my host. it was glorious. one of my favorite nights of my life.

I was thinking the same thing. Another game 7 OT loss was coming up.
I was was so dejected.

I sure hope you also missed the game 7 GWG in 1994.
I kinda missed that one. I was trying to get the dog to come inside so I could watch uninterrupted. I thought I heard "Fleury scores!" and came racing in to be completely surprised and heart broken.
Pixies were at Mac Hall at the same time. The concert ended around the time O/T started, and many people rushed over to the Den for the end of the game.
Pixies sold a live CD of the show, and Lovering says at one point, “how about those Flames.”
After the jersey toss/slash/Iggy trip sequence and Cooke scoring I screamed to the hockey gods "why do you keep doing this to me?!?!?!?!". They made it up to me shortly thereafter.
