I agree I liked Bombshell.
Also watched the Harley Quinn movie and maybe it was just because a movie like that is better in the theater but I was a bit disappointed.

I really liked The Gentleman. It wasn't a typical Guy Richie movie as it didn't have the deep English accents that North America (myself) can't understand. This had great dialogue and really good acting. I liked it all. 4.5/5 for me.

I also really liked Gentleman. It was probably the most enjoyable movie I've seen since OUATIH. I found it a bit racist though. And the Shylock pound of flesh allusion could be considered anti-Semitic.
Jojo Rabbit was pretty meh for me. Most of the jokes didn't work, especially the heil Hitler part. Seemed kinda like a Wes Anderson knock off but dumber.

Tonight it was Vivarium. The less said about it the better going in.
It was quick paced and easy to watch, but in the end I give it a big WTF. It’s not hard to figure out the movie’s message, but it’s kind of a banal message really in the first place.
So while it was entertaining enough to watch, I’m pretty disappointed by the whole thing and can’t really recommend it.

Sadly I cannot recommend Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood
Most disappointed I've been by a movie in a long time

Why? Do you typically like Tarentino?

I thought it was easily his worst movie. It mopped around and the climax wasn't as good as his previous ones. I simply can't believe it was an Oscar nominee. 4/10 for me, with the rest of his movies 7+.

I thought it was great.
Admittedly, I'm a big Tarantino fan so I went in expecting and hoping for pretty much that exact movie.
I don't think it was one of his best, but given the story itself it was what I wanted. I thought the slow, more or less uneventful first half made the payoff even better. Plus DiCaprio and Pitt were both fantastic.

I'm in the same boat, Hollywood was just too drawn out and uneventful. And I'm a big fan of Pulp Fiction, Django Unchained, Inglorious Bastards, and True Romance (even if that isn't a full Tarantino movie)

You’re dead to me.
Once... is Tarantino’s magnum opus. I’ve seen it 4 times and it is just as beautiful, engaging, tense and hilarious each time. It was Leo who stole the show for me, his best performance and should have won the Oscar.

I've never glanced at my watch more during a film in a theater than I did with Once Upon a Time...In Hollywood. Interesting characters, engaging dialogue, and flawless setting. Except, unlike his other films, it was devoid of story and purely self-indulgent. I kept expecting and waiting for it to go somewhere, but it was never meant to reach a destination. That was extremely frustrating.
It was basically Tarantino stroking himself for 2.5 hours followed by his signature bukakke moneyshot at the end.

I didn't enjoy Once nearly as much as others either, but I wonder if that has to do with not having the necessary info to? I.e. the context of really liking and knowing his other movies, or the era, or other stuff? I felt like I was watching a foreign movie and was missing a lot of context that was important to making the movie good.

It really is. You watch the entire scene of Rick on the set of Lancer without even registering that it's actually totally unnecessary because it's just so damn engaging. That movie is a masterpiece. And DiCaprio rarely slips into "Yelly DiCaprio" mode in it as well!

It's been explained to me that if you went in with the proper expectations and enjoyed it for what it was - period immersion and character study - you appreciated it more. You also need some surface knowledge of Charles Manson and the Tate-LaBianca murders.
I can see it from that perspective, but I still found it a pointless watch.
