Your Top 5 Current (or past) Flames Rivalries

Got this idea from the "miracle" thread.
 More quarantine fun:

Who do you feel the Flames have the most intense rivalry going on with currently? Rank your top 5 2020 Flames rivals. Which season series do you think the players get up for most and us fans as a result? Rivalries have come and gone over the years. Some are not what they once were and some have come out of the blue with some of the most unexpected and obscure teams. Share your thoughts!

Feel free to include favorite past rivalries.

 Current:
 1) Oilers (Tkachuk/Kassian Chronicles, BOA)
 2) Avalanche (Zadorov vs Lucic/Rittich)
 3) Sucks.... I mean Ducks (hatred all around)
 4) Kings (Tkachuk/Doughty and Gio/Brown)
 5) Wings (Tkachuk/Witkowski suspensions, bench brawl)

Past rivalry (in this modern era of hockey): Flames and Canucks in the 00s.

 HM: Torts vs Hartley

No offence but nothing even comes remotely close to touching the Flames/ Oilers rivalry from the mid 80’s to early 90’s.

Oh I'm aware. But I figured it's a given that that rivalry will be brought up.

I think a forgotten past rivalry was with Chicago back when they were just coming into their own as a Cup contender and we were attempting to build off of 2004 and get Iggy another chance at the Cup.
There was a lot of high scoring games and bad blood in those games. I can still remember squandering a 5-0 lead to them in a frustrating 6-5 OT defeat.

Too bad we never had a legitimate centerman back then to allow all the pieces to slot in correctly and give us a chance.

Right now... probably just the Oilers, maybe Vancouver as well.
In the past Canucks were definitely our biggest rival. The Oilers weren't even on the radar between 2000 - 2018.

 How about Anaheim? Montreal?

The Habs and Flames had a cool rivalry for a while, after their two SCF match-ups. New Years eve used to be always Habs/Flames and it was awesome.

Wish I was old enough during the Oilers - Flames heydays of the late 80s early 90s to fully appreciate the hatred and genuine passion of those rivalries.
I definitely enjoyed the Flames - Canucks rivalries the early to mid 2000s. Ohlund vs Iginla was an awesome match up, plus Iginla was in his prime and was a genuine weapon. There were also so many detestable figures on those Canucks from Jarko Ruutu to Matt Cooke to Todd Bertuzzi. Plus I lived in Vancouver during this when Nucks fans were just entering their peak-horribleness, so beating them was extra satisfying for me. When the Nucks fully transitioned to the Sedin - Kesler - Burrows teams, they typically had the Flames number and the rivalry lessened, especially so since the Sedins absolutely OWNED the Flames. However beating them in 2015 in the playoffs was pretty darn satisfying.

Honestly thats the only rivalry that really stands out to me. The Flames have been the definition of average during the majority of my life and typically the memorable rivalries develop when you have a sustained run of great teams going up against other teams that have sustained runs of greatness hence the Oilers - Flames of the 80s and early 90s. Yankees - Red Sox, Red Wings - Avalanche, Lakers - Celtics, Bruins - everyone, Duke - UNC, Canada - Russia hockey.

			1) Oilers. Maybe not as consistent, but the magnitude of the hate is unparalleled.
2) Vancouver. From Otto's skate to Bure to the Sedin's, I'd argue it's been more consistent than the Oilers rivalry.

3) Winnipeg. Underrated from my point of view. In the mid-80s when Hawerchuk was with the Jets, the team gave us fits. Macoun didn't goon him out of nowhere.

4) LA Kings. Both teams have been on an uneven footing for most of the last decade, but we still had a memorable moment against them recently with the Hudler goal. But before that, the early 90s series against them were incredibly intense.

5) Montreal. As Jiri said it has died, but the stanley cup matchups and the new years games were a big deal.

I'll give special mention to the Ducks, but let's face it: it's not been much of a rivalry |

I completely agree about Winnipeg they are forgotten now but they were a team that gave us a lot of trouble. I remember in 87 after we had upset them in 86 thinking how awesome the series was going to be against the Oilers. And then Winnipeg beat us and I had Oiler like hate for them for a while.

Oilers, all 5 spots. Don't care about anybody else. Canucks are an occasional irritant but not really a rival and once Seattle comes in they will have a real local rival.

86 series vs the Jets wasn't an upset. Flames were the higher ranked team.

WPG getting beat in the playoffs is almost never an upset.
