First the CDC's eight-week recommendation, and now the NBA is sending players home/planning for mid-June re-start at best.

ESPN story on NBA owners and executives preparing for a minimum three month hiatus — and awaiting league office’s projections on financial damage.
NBA has sent memo to teams telling them that players can leave respective cities during hiatus, league source tell ESPN.

Pretty much kills any hope of the NHL resuming this season.

I just love the idea of a full NHL tournament.

31 teams qualify. Best of 3 or 5 for each round depending when it returns.

Points percentage, divisional first — to cut down on travel. Means St Louis gets the only bye, but seeing how they’re reigning Stanley Cup Champs it’s almost fitting, and they’re probably ok to sacrifice first round revenue.

Even Boston gets rewarded for their first place finish by drawing last place Detroit in round one.

It would be wild to watch. And a lot of fun.

Calgary vs Arizona round one... less fun for us.

A hybrid March Madness style tournament is the only way the NHL is gonna get the Stanley Cup awarded this year. I don't think Late May - mid July will be enough time for them to finish season, and have playoffs.

EDIT: Actually guess it would be still in completing the remaining games, and doing full best of 7 series still. But it would be an incredibly fast paced, and crunched schedule. Really not much opportunities for consecutive days off; if at all. It may be too much for the players bodies. Especially if they want to still start next season at the beginning of October, thus have training camps start in early September.

3-4 days of play-in games for teams on the fringe. Then best of 5 series.

Make up a new championship the Derpy Cup or something lowest scoring and worst stat players get put into two teams. Best of 2.

I watched Australian and Mexican soccer so I still got my fix in.

KHL Conference semifinals start tomorrow.

If the CDC's announcement yesterday didn't make it clear that this wasn't going to be over quickly, this certainly does...

Yea NHL season is done.

I read in one of the other threads.... how does everyone feel about the Flames giving up that last second goal to Nashville now.

Puts a lot of things into perspective... sigh.

I wouldn't expect either the NBA or the NHL to be starting up any time soon. Putting aside any concerns about public safety, either league would need to be pretty confident they could keep their players in the clear before finishing the season or doing any sort of playoffs. All it would take is for one player to test positive and the entire team ( and probably any opponents they've played ) would pretty much need to be quarantined. Imagine that happening in the middle of the playoffs.

I think it's more likely that next season doesn't start on time than this one being revived. 2019/20 is dead.
