The Flames better really explain themselves on Monday, or I hope every calgarian protests this new arena.
The few million dollars this will cost is absolutely nothing compared to the hundreds of millions we as a city have agreed to. Everyone on this board has likely spent thousands of dollars in support of this team. If they don't support their most vulnerable during this time, I hope that stops.

During the arena debates it was hard to see where Eric's face started and Murray Edward's butt began.

Good perspective.
Many in the city believe that council should've held out so that the Flames paid an even larger share of the arena cost. Calgary for all intents and purposes conceded millions it maybe shouldn't have to get this thing in ink out of faith that it will help both parties. Depending on who you talk to some will say that the Flames should be paying much of that, but the city has decided to chip in nevertheless. But now that these Calgarians need a hand, ones that help keep their business functioning no less, and a much smaller sacrifice than that the city has agreed to, Murray has ####ed off to wherever he is overseas and turned his cheek. Whoever in the org has enough trust from these people to advise them needs to make clear the massive mistake ignoring this is.
I dont think the hand that feeds - the city/fans - would forget this easily.

Why don't you prove your "millions" comment first?

Anyone have an up-to-date list of teams not paying staff who can’t work?
Not defending the teams but I’m seeing some folks threatening to boycott Save-on Foods for taking the same position. How far does this go?

Just an update... as John Bean released some information to internal staff recently that they have been working on an EI top up program, as well as topping up those not eligible for EI and are putting it into place.
Not sure if they plan on releasing this to public or not, but they are doing it... and I really believe they would have without the public backlash... I get that may be hard to believe... but that was just my feeling from knowing the people directly involved.

Not that it was up to the players to make this right, but i thought we would have seen more players contributing. There are a couple of high paid players missing from the contribution list.

How does boycotting the Flames and protesting the new arena help event staff? By all means pressure ownership to do the right thing but the other stuff will just hurt the workers more. Optics aside this shows how many people do depend on the Flames for their livelihood.
