The economic impact of the pandemic will be catastrophic. You can't shut down mobility for an entire continent and think "working from home" will be the answer.

So Corsi I would say the richest among us absolutely have an obligation in times like these. I am part owner of a business and you're god damn right that I feel an obligation to lessen the impact on our employees. And trust me, I'm no Murray Edwards.

The Flames organization has had it's defenders over the years, I hope we hear from them too.

I'm completely ashamed of the Jets of the organization for not paying their staff. It's disgusting and I'm reconsidering my July trip to Jets Gear to buy some merch.

I mean, good for you, I think that's laudable. But it's effectively just money out of your pocket, so why do you feel obligated to give it to your employees, as opposed to, for example, other people in Calgary (or hell, anywhere) who are more vulnerable?

Clearly a bunch of people have this instinct that this is just the right thing to do, and if you don't, you're scum (which, Rando, is what a "moral obligation" means and is in fact what everyonein here has been talking about) ... but it seems to me like that's sort of a knee-jerk reaction.

Instead of arguing over this with people like Corsi, I recommend sending the same messages to the organization.

Give the organization the backlash it deserves, and they'll eventually do what's right.

They've boasted how community focused they are with the Flames Foundation while begging for an arena, then when an opportunity to do something tangible presents itself they go "nah, we good".

Don't condescend to me when you can't grasp the context of the argument, or why some already feel a negativity towards ownership.

Don't forget arena staff in AJHL and WHL rinks.

I wrote an angry but not disrespectful email to Chipman. I will also fax it. I encourage flames fans to do the same with their team's owners. It's our dollars on tickets, merch, and buying #### from advertisers that makes this thing run. Remind them of that.

For those wondering:

Arizona, Boston, Buffalo, Carolina, Chicago, Colorado, Columbus, Edmonton, Los Angeles, Minnesota, Montreal, both New York teams, Ottawa, St. Louis, Vancouver, Vegas, and Winnipeg are doing the same thing as Calgary.

This league might not have any fans left. 19/31 teams. That’s shockingly high for an age in which negative PR can destroy you.

This is a difficult situation for everyone involved. The Flames organization are doing the exact same thing that almost every business around the world is having to do. The Flames are in a tough spot as they are a organization that is followed very closely by the public so decisions like this gain a lot of attention. Almost every business under the son would go bankrupt very quickly if they continued to pay employees without receiving a revenue stream to offset the cost.

The difficult part for me is that players are continuing to collect their pay checks tied to multi million dollar contracts while the average person who lives pay check to pay check now suffers.

the level of greed is something else with these teams. glad this is out there for everyone to see. Maybe like some of the NBA players, some NHL players might step up even if it isnt their responsibility

Their team is writing their cheques. Biting the hand that feeds them may not be wise so I wouldnt expect the players to be too vocal about it.

That's why I'm hoping they pool together something to go towards the employees, even if it's not much. Just the mere action of doing so would send a positive message while it would embarrass the owners for being stingy.

Did every business in the world just get a fat taxpayer cheque from the community as well? Partially by leveraging and playing on the heart strings about how much they do for said community? This organization can go #### itself.

And now it's the players that are the problem? I mean come on.

I don't think it's laudable to take care of those in your own organization. It's just kind of decent really, isn't it?

Are you suggesting the Flames organization is redirecting their funds to those more vulnerable? Of course they aren't. If you aren't being generous with your financial gifts, does that mean you are scum? Yeah. kind of. Certainly not the kind of people I'd want to support.
