How are people surprised by this?

The Flames owners and management exposed who they really were from the start of the arena process. This is just a logical continuation. These people do not give a #### about us, it's tax write offs.

Well then I hope this thing really takes off and becomes a major deal that every Calgarian knows about. Screw these guys and if they want to threaten to move the team, eff off.

They already got the massive tax hand out to increase the value of their asset. That bull#### bluff isn't needed anymore.

Very disappointed. I imagine things will change in a few days when the owners realize the backlash, but it's disappointing that this is their initial response.

I work in oil and gas and know exactly what they're like when times get tough. They will cut you right to the bone and then go back to the tool kit for the hack saw.

I'd love to flush this ownership group for a different one.

As far as dire circumstances that are completely unprecedented come, it doesn't get as "freak" as this. So this is the time when you have to step up to the plate, and spare some resources because you can, for those people that work hard for you all year and run your business.

Expecting them to make ends meet in the meantime and come running back the moment you can start things up again is on another level of selfish. There are good people working there.

Don't forget your humanity on your way out, boys.

I put the article on all my social media feeds, and would encourage everyone else to do the same. It will take some public shaming, but I agree they will eventually do the right thing.

I think you also might start to see the players step up and put some money in. Although it is a big FU to your employer, I’d hope the guys have the moral courage to do what’s right.

There's a difference between arena negotiations that everyone in every league is doing, and this which is a response to a global pandemic that is shutting the world down.

It's incredibly inconsiderate by doing this.

This is starting to get picked up by a lot of larger outlets. It's honestly an atrocious PR look

I really hope they ask the owners and the CEO some hard questions about this one.

I'm so happy the city gave the billionaire owners free money for the arena in the midst of brutal cuts to education and transit so they can help the local economy. Nothing helps the local economy like cancelled shifts in the middle of a pandemic!!
