J&J. Not because of the vaccine aspect but because they have a proven history of performing above the market average while paying an increasing dividend yearly

What companies manufacture vaccines rather than invent them. Once a vaccine is developed it will be in the national interest and attempt to have it globally manufactured as fast as possible.
The companies that make 1 billion of these will be the ones driving growth.

Perosnally I don’t think so, but maybe.
Next bottom probably won’t be until the week after next I think.

I just fail to see how with the impending disaster in the US that is likely unavoidable at this point.
Plus the earnings havoc that is about to be unleashed once this works it's way through.

We're likely still months away from a bottom. After a weekend build-up of more inevitably bad news we'll likely see a big drop Monday as well. We're months away from any "good" news in regards to this virus, IMO. Doesn't hurt to nibble along the way though.

I've been nibbling away on the way down and was putting in limit orders at 52 week lows this week. Obviously today didn't get filled.
Will continue to do so next week and beyond.
S&P sniffed the support level but didn't breach it.
Was simply wondering what others are thinking.

I suspect next week it will be down again when the number of cases in the USA keeps rising. I will start buying at that time. Unless I chicken out like I sometimes do in situations like this.

If the US gets their act together and actually do manage to test themselves the numbers down there will balloon massively and all todays optimism based on nothing more than one of the most shambolic speeches I have ever heard in any context (including drunken ramblings at weddings by the brides dad) will go out the window and the downward trend will continue, I think we may have seen the end of massive drops soon, but they will just be replaced by steady decline

Here's a semi related question... If my mortgage is up for renewal in July,:
- renew / line up a new mortgage asap
- wait until after the panic has settled over Covid19 / oil prices (month or two?)
- hold off as long as possible (new mortgage in June/July)
Was planning on the first option until this week, now not sure if rates will go up or drop moving forward.

Rates are amazing right now. But your bank should be able to hold a rate for you now and still give you the option to get a lower rate later if they continue to drop. They seem flush with cash now and very willing to lend too.

Anyone buying dividend ETFs? Something like CDZ or XDIV?
I have CDZ in my RRSP but wondering if the MER is too high.

I have some ZDH and IDV as well.

Futures on S&P500 stocks are down 5% and limit switches have been activated. The markets will crash tomorrow. I was frustrated all week. Now I am really scared...

Well the fed pulled out the bazooka...and the market futures went limit down within minutes. I did love that Trump sent Lou Dobbs a signed stock chart on Friday bragging about how he lifted the markets. It's going to age horribly as this is grim. I don't know how many of you guys were in the market for the Lehman event, but that is how this feels right now.
