Do I just have bad luck or have other had the same experience with Zip?

I've only ever had 1 DVD they I couldn't play because it was scratched to ****. Never had the wrong DVD come though. I've been there for over a year and only have a problem with their ****ty CSR's who don't read emails when you send them.

I've got about 3 DVDs lying around my house that I've yet to watch or return. How long before Zip comes looking for me?

I recently cancelled my membership. It was pretty sweet when I first got it a few summers ago. Then slowly, the discs I were getting were scratched more and more, and unreadable discs were becoming commonplace...one in four. DVD player, computer, laptop...none of these devices could read it. Waste of my time.
I'd check off that "Could not read" or "scratched" or whatever the checkbox is on the sleeve, but I never got a replacement DVD from them.
OTOH, only once did I ever get a wrong disc. Not bad for a 18-month membership term.

Move to RogersVideoDirect. They are operated by zip.ca but the service seems much better.
I have never really had a problem with them and I get about 15 movies a month from them.

I user Rogers Video Direct as well, and have had zero problems with any of the movies I've received. Which is weird, because they're all Zip movies.
The CSRs don't read the emails though, that's for sure.

Their HD DVD selection appears AWESOME, but dont let their false availability fool you.
In the past 2 months - after having like 40 HD DVDs in my Ziplist, I only got about 5.
Going to be canceling this month.

It's called going to a real video rental store (not the online columbia house)- that way when it's scrated you can go in and bitch yourself. That is a much more effective way to get what you want.

Renting online is FAR cheaper than renting from a physical video store - especially if you watch a lot of movies a month.

In the US didn't Blockbuster start up a competitor to NetFlix, and they adevertise you can go into their store and exchange movies.
Is that the future? Will rental stores start switching to a library type subscription service?

I would imagine so. Thats the best way they can beat the NETflix's of the world - destroy them with their already available and accessible infrastructure.

Blockbuster Total Access allows you to return online rentals to a brick and mortar store, but the rental from the brick and mortar store is subject to the same rental conditions as an in-store rental, not an online rental. So that would mean the re-stocking charge after a month or whatever it is, instead of the unlimited rental period with online rentals (assuming Blockbuster Total Access offers the same rental terms as Netflix, Zip, Rogers Video Direct, etc.)
It has the potential to improve the online rental experience. My only beef with RVD is the long wait for new releases, when you can go in store and get guranteed new releases.
But even this shortfall is easier to tolerate than having to go the store in the first place. No incompetent clerks to deal with, no braving the idots driving on the roads, etc.

I use Canflix. Not a bad service. As one said it is far cheaper than going to the store and renting. Especially where I live. $7.00/night for new realeses.

(1) I think the reason I'm getting so many wrong DVDs is because I only order TV series. So I'll get L&O:SVU Season 2 disc 5, instead of L&O:SVU Season 2 disc 2.
(2) Okay. Move to Rogers for BETTER service. I've not ever heard that before.
(3) How does Rogers do a better job if it is Zip that is providing the fulfillment? It would be the same bad sorters that can't see obvious scratches.
