If things go this way then this season will always have an asterisk next to it and the Cup winner will always be questioned. Just cancel it for the legitimacy of the league, you can’t change the rules when the season is 90% done.

Guys, speaking as a physician who has done a LOT of reading on Covid, I wouldn’t worry too much about point percentage.

There is almost no way there will be playoffs this year.

Yeah, at the very least there would need to be some kind of play in tourney for all teams in contention

Well yeah if they aren't gonna play now I HIGHLY doubt they are ready to resume in a month or two

You can't do playoffs by percentage. Either play the games in empty arenas or cancel the season entirely. Those are the only two choices that make sense.

No way you do points percentage when 5-7 teams are so close to being in/out of the playoffs. Teams and their owners won’t accept that.

So, will the Flames not make it based on point percentage? Could have an extra against Vegas helped?

Yeah, if there is still time for something, do something fun like have some tournaments for Canadian champs and American champs or East/West American champs. It could even kick off fun in season tournaments in the future years like soccer does.

I don't understand why you wouldn't play the games in empty stadiums. The cost of doing so seems like it would be dwarfed many times over by the TV revenues that you'd have to give up if you cancelled the games.

Call me a traditionalist, but unless there is a four round tournament in which a team has to win sixteen games I would prefer the Cup remained unclaimed this year.

Yep, the more I think of it you can't just have an arbitrary cutoff date...teams have played different number of games

Road Vs. Home games ect.

It would be impossible to make it fair

Cause if a player infects another team and it spreads through the league the lawsuits could bankrupt teams/the Nhl. Not to mention putting all your employees at serious risk.

Play to 72gp in empty arenas, call that the season standings.

Evaluate whether you can have playoffs in 6-8 weeks.

They do. However that extra point puts us up against the oilers and not the blues lmao.

Knowing people that work the dome for games and events, you also wonder how it affects them.

The NBA and European soccer leagues are proving that players are inevitably going to catch it, and once they do, then you have multiple teams in 14 days quarantine. Teams and their personnel travelling around city to city are going to be at risk for getting it and also distributing it.

If I were the Flames I would argue points percentage being used considering the amount of road games they have played (home record aside)

Lets be real though, things won't be magically better in a few weeks

If they can't find a way to settle regular season in a way that everyone agrees on, then just cancel the season and playoffs altogether. No cup.

Though I highly doubt they are even able to have playoffs at this point.
