A couple losses to vegas were a fluke tip and a Frolik brain fart to turn the tide. Vegas has had some crazy fortunate things occur along the way in those games.

Have the Flames beaten the Knights when Subban wasn't the starting goaltender?

There's just something about this team. A lack of something. I've seen players casually skating off to the bench for a change that leads to an odd man rush. Half assed attempts at taking your man that lead to a great scoring chance against. The cute passes, dipsy doodling in the neutral zone, all leading to odd man rushes and giveaways. Our star players are the worst culprits too, Tkachuk, Johnny, Monahan...
This team lacks focus, lacks commitment, and ultimately this means a lack of consistency. I still think the core needs a shake, but everything I have mentioned falls into the coaching category. With top notch coaches out there I dont understand why Tre hung onto Ward like this. Very bizarre to me.

Why does everything you mention fall into coaching?
For me that's all about player commitment, effort and accountability. And things we've been seeing under multiple coache
At what point does the finger point in the direction of the actual players?

In these kinds of games, this and the Nashville game...after either the Flames tie it late or take the lead, Ward needs to get his head out of his *** and call a timeout. Calm em down and re-emphasize the importance of playing till the horn. Happened one too many times for him to not get this. Even when they tied the game yesterday, I wasn't comfortable with so much time left on the clock.

While that was a heartbreaker of a loss, I personally thought it was a pretty solid game from most of the team.
We've been looking for consistency from these guys all year and if you look at the last 10 or so it has been there IMO. The passing and offensive zone pressure have been much improved.
Brush the sting of that one off (as they did the Nashville shocker) and get back to business.
The biggest question mark for me is if Rittich has what it takes to be "the guy"...my wife thinks not and it pains me that she may be right.

Flames are their own worst enemies:
- Come out totally flat for a big game? Check.
- Allow a reasonably early goal and get behind? Check.
- Do the above again? Check.
- Coach fails to settle down the team? Check.
- From behind, play like hell to catch up? Check.
- Tie the game in the late going? Check.
- Instantly lose focus and give up a goal? Check.
- Coach forgets there's such a thing as a time out? Check.
- Come out with nothing? Check.
Seems like this story has been written more than once this season, but they're still gonna "learn from it and move on"....reeally?

There can be some blame with Ward (individually), but you’re absolutely right that the common denominator is the players themselves. At what point will we all realize that? We’ve gone through 4 coaches now with this core.

No thats a fair point. I suppose thats my homerism as I do like the majority of the players and want to believe that this group is close to being a contender. But the stats and history of the team say otherwise. I also think its more likely to see a new coach as opposed to any substantial roster changes.
The 2020 Draft will be a big one, as thats where Tre likes to make his moves. Could be the draft that makes or breaks his time as GM of the team.

Taking a while to get to 5000

Given the flashes of brilliance we see with this core, I'd be pretty stunned if they blew it up before trying a coach with a winning record or proven track record.
Then again, here we are smack dab in the middle of our "window" running with an unproven interim coach so what do I know.

This exact scenario has happened once or twice.
In Nashville they had the lead, and actually had it a few times over the game. They lost in overtime and collected a point.
Usually when they come back all the way they win.
But let's use our goldfish memory and pretend like last nights game is a regular occurence.
Slow starts have been, but not that whole sequence of events.
The parade of not well thought out posts just continues to roll in.

Way too many posters making a huge deal out of this game. The Knights are one of the hottest team in the NHL right now. The Flames would have won if it hadn't been for a few very lucky bounces.

Something that really bothers me is they never appear to be in the right position when vegas has 3 guys down low and we only have one or 2 guys on them and the puck bounces back toward the blue line we should have a guy ready to get that puck but they don't it is always the opposing teams player that comes up with the puck and usually there isnt even a flames player anywhere near them. Are they just all hanging out at the red line?

Rittich is doing his job - just really bad bounces due to bad defensive play in front of him. Also, Rittich's getting the harder teams to play against whereas Talbot plays the weaker teams. So, in my opinion, Talbot's a bit on the sheltered side. Plus, I think your wife might have the hots for Talbot since he's got a prettier face I think the Flames have a pretty good goalie tandem. Just the team sucks in the first period and the last couple of minutes on most nights. You can't really fault the goalies on most nights. This team is below mediocre on home ice.

There are positives available from what happened (they played the first placed team and fought back from a 3-0 deficit to tie), but you will not find them appreciated here.

Thanks is not enough. Such pissy poor losers in here. There were things to like.

A significant portion of the fanbase here clearly has given up on team, and are now actively cheering for them to lose in the hopes that major changes will be made.

I'm a newbie posting on this site but some of the posters here sure seem fragile. I am already avoiding game threads as I can't believe some of the people in there are even enjoying watching hockey.
Down one goal in the first:
SELL THE TEAM
FIRE THE COACH
TRADE EVERYONE
Why watch something that makes you that mad?

This is why the Flames are perpetually mediocre though. I've said this many times, it's not a blaming exercise. The coaching is not optimal and the team isn't built well. Both the roster and coaching need upgrades. It's not "letting the players get away with it."
That said, if you want to point the finger at something it should be the architect of all these pieces. I actually think the Flames need a better GM, coaching, AND roster.

Yeah it's crazy. It's not even after losses, it's after goals against. Sometimes not even goals that put us behind on the scoreboard!
"X player is useless, not a top 6 NHL d-man!"
"We must have the worst x in the league!"
"Game over" (seen this in the first half of the last two, both of which they came back in lol)
Do they expect that we just never get scored on? I cant really wrap my mind around it. The highs and lows are extreme.
Even if they make the playoffs, hell even if they go somewhere in said playoffs.. team is going to get scored on, a number of times, and the team is going to lose, a number of times yet.
Prepare yourself for it. It's part of the game.
