I would argue Lehner initiates the contact as much as Backlund does and this is where I have the problem, Backs does his best to keep himself on side of the play and he is trying to position to be able to play it but because there is incidental contact not completely initiated by him it's called off.

I've heard it at least a couple times for ex players on the spittn chiclets podcast, and I'm fairly certain I've come across the sentiment in other places as well. But really, watching Detroit even a few years ago they would get away with way more than other teams.
