Also Mangiapane has 10 points, Backlund with 12 points in 11 games in February. That is top 6 numbers. Giving up more quality assets to bring in a player that in all likelihood wouldn’t be much of an improvement doesn’t seem like a good idea at this juncture.
One is an almost 28 year old UFA on a cap-tight team with tons of other left-handed UFA defensemen.

The other is a 25 year old RFA who is known for his speed.

The sensibility of the Gustavsson trade hinges on whether they re-sign him or not.
Part of me wants Treliving to just sign everyone under the sun to 7/8 year contracts so that the team can stop throwing away picks and prospects.

Well good news for you, baseball has started up again so you don’t have to watch hockey.

I think you can also safety assume that either you were giving away draft picks or Dube / Mangiapane / young D to acquire anyone today.

Why would the Flames do that?

The emergence of Mangipane has changed things a lot.

It's hilarious that you have the name of a terrible GM and the player he traded away for crap in your name, and then you post about "Trelosing".

I think this is why no question. If the flames added a guy like Palmieri it probably cost a first considering what guys like Coleman went for and it more than likely demotes Mangipane down the line up. Dube probably to the AHL. These 2 have been getting better and better as season goes on and both play with a little jam in there game. Rather let them play and see how they respond.

Backlund tkachuk and mangipane line has been our best line of late and Bennett lucic and dube have been good too. Low cost adds tells me the plan is looking at next year without completely giving up on this year.

I could see forbort and Gustafson being cheaper resigns than hamonic and brodie and they are younger so giving then term is less risky

I wanted them to stand pat, so I am happy. They still have their picks and the message has been sent to the team core that this is it, prove yourself. Having Johnny get back on his game is probably better than any add they could have gotten. The current group controls their own destiny right now, so if things don't go to the management liking then things will change.

I think, without the emergence of Mangiapane, the Flames might have been selling today.

Scoring has not been a huge issue lately. In their last ten games the Flames have scored:

0-2 Goals - twice
3-4 Goals - four times
5+ Goals - four times

While the Flames are still only 19th in Goals for per game (2.87) that number is skewed by an awful stretch of hockey - from 2019-11-09 until 2019-11-21 where they only mustered 5 goals in 6 games.

Edit: Under Peters the Flames averaged 2.37 goals per game over the span of 27 games. Under Ward the Flames are 3.13 goals per game.

I like it, kinda. No reason to go all in with this team right now. But injuries on d can happen down the stretch. I'm happy with the insulation these guys provide. Plus stone hasn't been lucky lately.

This is true. But for some people, they also enjoy debating what their favorite team could be doing differently or better.

I agree you don't have to be whiny and doom and gloom about it. But not every fan is just content with closing their eyes and going for the ride. Sports fandom is filled with people being disappointed and crushed by their team. Second guessing coaches and GM's is old as sports. That is kind of the beauty of being a sports fan.

IMO you can hope for the best but still not like or agree with what your team is doing and suggest other approaches.

This.

This is the best time of year...everyone (myself included) can stop worrying about how best to improve the team, salary caps and coaches Just jump on the bandwagon and cheer for the longest ride possible! When it's over there will be plenty of time to think about next season...regardless of outcome.

Happy that:
1. We kept our 1st and 2nd and a 3rd for this draft. USE THEM. Dont trade them.
2. Cost efficient trades did occur. Both D men were relatively cheap.

Dislike:
1. No FW addition. There was still plenty of meat on the bone out there. Shake the FW roster a little. Take a bit out them, nip at their heels.
2. No selling of pending UFAs. Yeah yeah yeah, "they're thin on D! Cant trade them!". BS and now they walk for nothing. Terrible asset management.

Anyways. After digesting the days events I can say I'm Trelivinged out.

I hope the players reward him for sticking by them but I'm airing on the side of we got a lottery pick.

So Forbort is better than Davidson and a 4th. Hmm ok.

Basically Kylington will be sitting in a fold up chair again similar to last season because he's the least experience guy.

So potential losses on July 1st including today
Brodie
Hamonic
Forbort
Gustafsson
Stone
2020 4th Rd
2020 3rd Rd

Tre said he knew what he wanted to accomplish today. Really I don't know what he's accomplished today or in the past year. Sorry but this GM has failed.

Fixed.

This certainly is the most pessimistic view of the Flames activity today. A more balanced appraisal says...

· Yes, Forbort is a huge upgrade on Davidson and a 2021 fourth
· Kylington will miss games because Gustafsson is for now a much better scoring defenseman than him who addresses a critical need on the blue line and the powerplay
· There is no way the Flames let all five UFA defensemen walk on July 1 without contracts.

I think most members of this board fit this description precisely. The poster I quoted most definitely does not.
