Hopefully McDavid drags the corpse of James Neal around for two more goals. It'd be nice to have a pick in each round this June.
Not thrilled with the day. Yes Hamonic is injured but a play on either him or Brodie should've been done months ago.
Hamonic has been injured and inconsistent all year. Brodie has been essential for the Flames. The team is in a playoff spot. They aren't just going to throw the towel in, because they aren't running away with the conference. Do you honestly expect any professional sports team to do that?
From what I saw, it definitely looked like the Flames kicked tires on Brodie/Hamonic trades all summer, but didn't get any bites for what they were looking for.
Do you know who he played with when he wasn't with Kieth? Just a rotating cast?
I do hope he gets tried with Forbert. Forbert's made a career out of covering for Doughty's gaffs thus far, he seems like just the man for the job. Plus they're both new so not like it messes up any other chemistry
Here are his top 5 partners by minutes, so a bit of a grab bag after Keith.
This trade addresses a big hole, really excited to see what he can do on the first pp unit assuming they put him there. I like Gio but he doesn’t seem to be able to effectively quarterback the pp.

Giordano has been struggling mightily to get his shot on net this year.

He had 42 even strength points last year. Or were most of those 2nd assists when Kane goes end to end?
So since the start of the 18/19 season he has 60 ES points - which is 8th among d-men in the NHL.
His 17 ES goals rank 10th in that time, his 38 primary points (goals + 1st assists) rank 11th.
He's been playing on a bad team with other d-men that aren't all that great anymore, for a third I think it's worth a shot to see what he is. Plus he's young enough that re-signing him shouldn't be out of the question if he works out down the stretch.

I guess that's one way to look at it.
Alternatively, you have two guys coming to a new city and a new team, playing for a new coach and a new system, and skating with a new D-partner who doesn't know what he's doing either. What could go wrong?!?
Chicago has some of the worse defensemen in the league, as they lead the league in giving up high danger scoring chances.
Gustafsson has been a large part of that, as he's been moved down their pairings as the season went on.
They weren't particularly enamoured with him when he scored so well last year.
While there may be truth to these comments, I wanted to address them.
Last year's Blackhawks fell from a 51.38% CF team under Quennville to a 48.56% possession team under Colliton. They fell from a 48.99% SCF team to a 46.69% SCF team.
So while they're a bad team, coaching is clearly one factor in their struggles. Colliton doesn't seem to be a very structured coach. And while Ward isn't really impressive tactically either, it's still possible Calgary is a better environment for the player.
