Rantanen was drafted #10 OA. I'd call that good scouting, rather than good fortune.
What happened in 2013 though? Or 09 or 11 for that matter?

Good little add for the Avalanche who are becoming annoying with their explosion and room for moves this past year.

Namestnikov will help out their depth and is good in his own zone which will help their defenders. He can also help out their PK if they slot him there.

wonder how the Avs lines shake out now / if he cracks their top 6 over Nichuskin/Donskoi.

Definitely gives them some nice depth.

The point is the Avs didn't bottom out to get Rantanen. They made a very good pick at #10 OA. If the Flames finish just out of the playoffs and draft 10 OA, and pick a player as good as Rantanen, I won't attribute that to the rewards of bottoming-out.

Where did they pick the other star players on their team? Kind of the same area as the Oiler picks but actually worked out I think.

Rantanen became what he is because of MacKinnon.
