No, he wouldn't. Our forward depth is fine, we needed a defensive D man.

Do you really think so? The Flames have scored 51 goals since the ASG, and only one of those was scored by a defenseman. I get the desire to add forwards, but the biggest issues with this team for the remainder of the season were on the blue line. Namestikov doesn't really address any of that.

Nope. Rasmus Andersson, 6 February v. Nashville.

Interested to see if news changes on Hamonic or Gio at all now. Feel like adding two d-men means that at least one of them is out longer term, maybe even until the playoffs.
|
Well certainly not Gio who is travelling with the team and taking full reps in a regular jersey
I think they have to put Hamonic on LTIR to make the money work anyways - so he’s prolly done for the year.

Crash and Bang Winger

Hammer likely out until april, and gio struggling all year makes sense to bring these two guys in and try and fix what should be a strength. Keep gio's minutes to 5 on 5 and pk let Gustafson run the pp.

Namestnikov does nothing for this team. They needed a top 6 winger, not another middling forward, which they have an over abundance of.
They also needed a big and mobile defensive defenseman and a defenseman with some offensive ability and can play the right side.
They filled needs.
I would have liked to see them acquire a top 6 winger, but that was not likely to happen, unless some team out there was really high on a package of Jankowski and Kylington, which i'm guessing there wasn't.

Whoops. I missed that one. So, two goals.
As of today Gustafsson is the Flames leading goal-scorer from the bluline, and is second in scoring. I like Kylington, but this is a significant upgrade.

The most disappointed team has to be the Islanders. Going from a guy in the AHL to a second line LW would have been big for them, but the Parise deal fell through. My guess is that Guerin altered the deal at the last second to pull a better additional player, and Lou was having none of it.
On the other hand, Penguins came out of this with a pretty good day. Same with Carolina. They are both all in.

Hanifin scored last game. Except he banked it in off Mangiapane, so that's a bad play for him stats wise.

If the Flames somehow manage to put together a playoff run, I'd rather avoid another Brennan Evans situation.
