In Gus you are getting a PP QB and a 3rd pairing D-Man that needs a SAH partner.

Forbert - Gustaffson sounds pretty solid to me. Forbert's basically spent the last few years covering for Doughty's bad pinches and whatnot

What he provides. You are not going to get a traditional top-pairing defenseman that will give you a shutdown role or the type of player you want playing 25 minutes a night against the other team’s best forwards. He will, however, give you a lot of offense from the blue line, especially if you put him into situations where he can focus on the offensive side of the puck. He will probably never duplicate the 17-goal, 60-point performance from the 2018-19 season, but he is still a productive player that should be good for around 10 goals and 30-35 points over an 82-game season with good possession numbers from the blue line. Not a superstar by any means, but a darn good second-pairing option for a playoff team.

This goes along with Kent Wilson's post about him having metrics similar to Hanifin.

But Steinberg saying Gustafsson can play the right side.

I wonder about

Giordano - Brodie
Hanifin - Andersson
Kylington - Gustafsson
Forbort - Yelesin
- Stone

Injured: Hamonic

Not playing: Valimaki (good, not eligible for expansion draft)

How about some 1st pairing option? I'm sure Gus is better offensively than Doughty.

It's probably good that we can afford to ot play Valimaki, just one less piece to protect in the expansion draft

Gustafsson has been pretty comparable to Hanifin over the last two seasons. I'd say that's a good return for a 3rd rounder.

If the Flames can re-sign him, I wonder if this sets the stage for a Hanifin trade in the off season

Not crazy about spending a 3rd on a rental in what seems like a pretty off year for the team.

Not crazy about having so many UFA d-men.

But, I'm also not crazy about our mix of defensemen before the trade, and Gustafson is intriguing. Good age too, if he ends up signing here.

Wait and see I guess.

Sooooooo…

Gio - Brodie
Hanifin - Andersson
Forbort - Gustafsson
Kylington, Stone

This looks better than what we had yesterday. And if Gustafsson can improve our PP, even better.

A few years ago new acquisition Shlemko scored a biggie in Boston in their post-deadline game.

Excited to see if Gus can make a similar entrance.

I agree, this is better than yesterday and we didn't have to give up a whole lot to make the team a bit better.

Those both 2 spots are up for grabs from whoever is playing well.

Next season, we have a guarantee to have the following:

Gio - Anderson
Hanifin - ?
Kylington - Valimaki

Stone...Brodie and/or Hamonic are gone.

So, maybe Gus works out over the last few months and we re-sign him. There are a lot of options and hopefully this works out. I do like getting a heavy guy like Forbort in here, hopefully he isn't slow.

That would be a tire fire in our own zone.. lol

He will probably play with Forbort.

Is that factoring in the Oilers? or do we already have 2?
