If the return is indeed a conditional 3rd, I'm very happy about the Gustafsson trade. I dislike the Forbort trade.

What are you talking about? They shook the crap out of Yelesin, Stone and Davidson. Those guys are shook to the core that they are not as good as Gustofsson and Forbort.

It's not a matter of faith so much as hedging bets. I think clearly Hamonic is out of close to the rest of the season and Valimaki being shelved is very advantageous expansion draft-wise.

Can we please re-sign Brodie or are we going to let him ride off into the sunset for nothing?

Gustafsson deal is interesting.

Pending UFA, previous 60 point player, have to believe his contract is going to be at least the same as Rasmus in AAV.

So is the idea to just let Brodie's 4.9 walk out the door and replace him with Gustaffson, a worse player?

I'm really interested in how this shakes out and what the actual compensation ends up being.

If it's a 2nd round pick I have to question the thought process here.

Man, these premature statements by media guys on these days burns my bacon like nothing else.

Don't come out and announce we're done if we're not 100% done.

You're putting all the fans through the motions twice now.

I'm sure glad I'm not the GM. I wish they were able to make a trade for a RW but it seems like the prices were to high so they beefed up the blue line.

We did need someone to QB the atrocious PP though now that Gio has lost a bit of offensive touch so I hope that works out. If we can start potting some PP goals it would be a help.

All us fans can do now is hope that Ward starts slipping some testosterone into Johnny and Monahan's Gatorade so they mean up and produce.

If those deals are out there , they will also be there this summer.

They do nothing to help the team this season.

I feel like Burning Beard's post is worth posting again.

This team needs the core forwards, their best players, to be their best players. As long as Gaudreau, Monahan, Lindholm and Tkachuk aren't consistently the team's better forwards every night they won't go far, like this season has shown us. And you're not going to trade those guys today, the summer is when you start rebuilding your roster with major moves.

I'm not going to rag on Treliving today, the prices were high for buyers. The only thing I think I can look back and maybe be negative about him was his willingness/commitment to the core of this team after the playoffs, saying they deserved another shot at it after having a solid regular season for the most part last season. In retrospect, they should have blown things up before the season, as the team we saw in the playoffs was basically what this team is........not good enough.

This summer will be busy, I think. I would not be surprised to see both Gaudreau and Monahan gone, a new coach, and some other moves here and there. I think this team looks much different in October. Lots of nice pieces in Calgary, make the right moves in the summer and this team could be very good again quickly.
This is a very good post.

Great day. With Mangiapane breaking out we have a solid top 6 now. Prices were insane this deadline, Tre added a depth defensive D man and a PP specialist who can play the right side. The answers are in the room, hopefully the team bonds together and makes a run

Meh, I'm good. I wanted to add a forward with term but understand the deadline isn't a good day to do that

I'm going to swim against the tide and say I actually don't mind what Tre did today. The team has been terrible defensively for the past couple of weeks and this should shore them up down the stretch. They're in a playoff spot and once the second season starts, who knows what can happen. Forbort is meh but he didn't cost much and if he can help keep the puck out of the net better than Stone then IMO it's a 4th rounder well spent. A 3rd (depending on the conditions) for Gustaffson could be a steal - especially if he re-signs at a reasonable cap hit.

Yes, I would have like to see a forward coming back, but the prices today were straight up insane and I'm happy that we didn't waste a first rounder on someone who isn't going to come in here and win us a cup. This team is going to live & die by the core we have right now, and nothing Tre could have done today would have changed that. Ride it out, see what happens, and make major changes in the summer if that's what's required.

Maybe he could see it but the higher ups did not.

They're in a playoff spot, and one of the best road teams in the league. I doubt they're going far, if they even make the playoffs, but you never know. It would have been very surprising to see a playoff team go into sell mode.

I wanted them to add a forward and shake up this super stale team and not send picks for depth. Rather they sell then do what they did.

I think thees moves makes sense, personally.

The Flames are likely (but by no means, definitely) going to make the playoffs. Therefore, you can't really be sellers - especially with 2 defensemen out of the lineup.

And it doesn't make sense to be big buyers.

So they tried to shore up the D as best as they could, and not trade away any significant assets. Then see how the rest of the year plays out, and decide what to do with the team in the off-season.

Makes sense to me.

But over-reactions are way more fun.
