JACKETS STING HABS

Ba-ba-ba Jason LaBarbera stood tall stopping 24 of 25 shots as the Columbus Blue Jackets defeated the Montreal Canadiens 4-1 on Tuesday. Keith Tkachuck opened the scoring on the power play for the only goal of the first period to give the Habs a 1-0 lead at the end of 1.

Scott Niedermayer evened things 2:31 into the second period with his 15th goal of the season as he snuck in from the point and tipped Christian Ehrhoffs point shot past Tomas Vokun. Matt Bradley put the Jackets ahead for good 2:37 later. With the Jackets at the tail end of a power play Ritchies attempted centering pass from the corner riccocheted off of Ed Jovanovski and right onto Matt Bradley's stick to put into the open net. The Habs pressed hard afterwards with 4 powerplays including a 36 second 5 on 3 advantage but were unable to get anything past Labarbera who made several key saves.

Having spent all their energy the Habs didn't have much left in the third as the Blue Jackets swarmed the hosts net. Eric Cole scored his 24th goal 4:49 in converted a slick feed from Pierre Turgeon. Late in the frame Dave Scatchard scored his 17th goal of the season with a slapper high over Vokuns glove.

Matt Bradley, Dave Scatchard, Byron Ritchie and Josh Gorges all tallied 2 points for the Jackets. For Gorges it was the 6th staight game in which he's collected a point and now has 11 points in 12 games since joining the Jackets. Dave Scatchard is quietly having a solid season as the big right wing/centre went over the 40 point mark with his two point game. Karel Rachunek played 19 minutes in his Jackets debut and registering no points and finishing even on the night.

Despite a two point effort Byron Rudy Ritchie learned after the game that he had been traded. Ritchie who's registered 4 goals and 15 points in 54 games was traded along with AHL defenceman Matt Greene to the San Jose Sharks for veteran forward Steve Rucchin.

Goffie -> says (10:01 PM):
Spezza is dirty

No kidding Goffie! Spezza gets a game misconduct after trying to pick Steve McCarthy's nose with his stick! Spezza misses this game and McCarthy has nasal surgery and will be out for 3 weeks! DIRTY is an understatement.

In other news. That penalty served to fire up the Hawks, who obliterated the dirty Pens 7-4. Jussi scores a hat trick in his old home, the Igloo.

Spezza gets mad at people hurting the Pens so he destroys Steve Mccarthy to get his point across! He didn't realize that Lindy Ruff's comments of stand up for your stars was meant for the 4th line and got ejected during his first shift of the game. Pens get smacked around the rest of the game and lose 7-4.

11-17-1 @ Home...Ouch

Derek Roy with the hat trick!

McCauley's first game as an Islander and for the first time in probably like 10 games, the Isles surrender less than 30 shots against!

His value's high now. You should trade him for Danny Sabourin.

A shutout one night and a crap-tastic performance the next night. Disappointing, Marty.

Excellent come from behind victory for the Kings on the road against a very hot Sabres team. Captain Mike Modano with a superb game against his old team. 1st star honors along with the game winning goal to lead Los Angeles to the victory.

Well I would save some money. Probably worth it to get a guy who's never won a game though in his life. (Unless you count CPHL against noobs boobs)

Yashin's first game as an Av and he gets ejected early in the first. Conroy is the star for the Avs - the only one. He nets two and Huet performs solidly to get the tie vs the Canes.

HOWL!

Old Dog Cujo gets a shutout while the Coyote offense goes into hibernation. A SH goal was the difference as Phoenix won 1-0.

The angry Sim gods continue as Handzus is now out for a week.

Perhaps some shake up changes may be around the corner if our goal scoring continues to slip.

Even with the Blues being down 5-2 vs the Islanders, and Derek Roy recording a hattrick, Sid, Ovechkin and Salo composed a magical comeback in the 3rd period. Sabourin stood on his head after Mason was ineffective as the Blues came back to win it 6-5 in OT. Kris Draper had the winner as he was sprung lose on a breakaway to beat Gordon's Fishsticks in an exciting game.
