Well that's a hell of an effort but I'll wait until I can download it for free. No bling for you.
Well, you can't say that I wasn't game and gave it an honest effort, attempting to backup my bluster. I will give props to all rappers out there for remembering them damn rhymes. They can get a little confusing I am sure.

Take this from someone who has a strong music resume - Nickleback is like the Grade 8 band from a garage that had a couple catchy tunes and got lucky with a recording company or whatever. Kudo's for them to make it as far as they did, but solely talking about music... we'll lets just say its kids stuff.

(Edit: For instance, they use probably the most common drum beat - the hi hit dotted eighth with the snare and base drum.)
And what musical resume would that be Phaneuf? Please explain. Frankly I don't think you know music very well, especially rock music, based primarily on this comment.
[/b][/quote]
Grade 10 percussion (with RCM), member of the Westmount Percussive Performance Association - regarded around Canada as the top, non-profit, U-20 percussion ensamble in Canada.

Grade 10 piano (RCM), with multiple competition awards.

Grade 5 Harmony with RCM

Grade 4 Music History with RCM

Section Leader in High School Band

Grade 4 Counterpoint with RCM

And if you didn't know, 2 ARCT's with RCM is about equivalent to having 2 masters degrees in music.

Good enough?

Note that what I was referrign to wasn't 3/4 time. It's 4/4, generally repeated every 2 bars. Also, find me a band that actually uses their toms in non-transition places. They are far and afew. Almost all combo's are done on a hi-hat, snare and bass drum, while chorus's will usually use the other symbols (suspended, crash, ect).

Hey, don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to doubt Nickleback's success. Good for them for getting as far as they do, there's actually a song or two I like from them. However, recognize that it doesn't always the most talent to make it big. With Nickleback, they took their rather simpliest music and made it big with it. Good for them.
(Edit 52: I agree with you that playign in front of an audience is not easy. That, I will agree with you, is not kids stuff. However, your ability to perform in front of an audience is independent of your musical ability - thus when you talk about their musical abiility and their performing ability, you are talking about 2 different things.)

Why is it that every canadian band, or anything canadian have to be hammered by the canadian public. I have never liked Celine Dion's music but I don't hammer her or her music everychance I get. People pay good money to see her, and she has a nightly show in Vegas. She must be doing something right. Same goes for Nickleback, they are not my favorite band, but they must be doing something right.

Or more generally, why is everything hammered by the Canadian public? It's cause we're whiners.

There are dozens of non-lame Canadian bands that don't get hammered on. Nickleback just isn't one of them.

It's not a Canada thing, it's a sucking thing. I don't have a musical resumé and I can't play the guitar, but I do have an opinion, and that opinion is that Nickleback stinks.

Sorry.

Congratulations, most ignorant thing I've read all week.

And by the way, Nickleback sucks and this mp3 is another glaring showcase of that fact.

It's just that an Internet bitch fight over who has the more knowledge and therefore better prepared to criticise Nickelback seems kind of lame to me.

I actually liked some of Nickleback's stuff when they first came out (a couple of songs I still like), but I found they started getting quite repetitive... don't like much of their new stuff.

So true...fact is Nickelback just suck, really, really badly...they are completely derivative, a grunge rip-off with about an ounce of talent compared to the original "grunge" bands...

I don't see great bands like The Hip or Neil Young being hammered...it's cause they're actually good

And the whole thing about rap...come on people, there is good rap out there, but just like rock, its harder to find...pretty much everything on muchmusic or cjay92 these days sucks, no matter what genre it is..consumers need to expect more from their music instead of buying what's fed to them by corporations

When I was in high school I liked some of the Nickleback garage stuff. But now... yeah as everyone else says... repetitive, not really imaginative.

I don't really care about musical talent, alot of good bands couldn't play their instruments all that well. It just seems Nickleback is missing a good songwriter and a good arranger.

Yeah but how many with the popularity of Nickleback don't get hammered on.

I can think of 1, Sum 41 in recent history. It just seems to be popular these days to make fun of so many things that we do. We are a proud nation when it comes to Hockey and Comedians, after that it seems we are not proud of much else. I can completely understand why people don't like Nickleback, they are far from my favourite, but why do we hammer on them so badly when obviously so many people like them.

Britney gets sh*t on because she screwed in the head, Jessica is dumber than a rock....they sing there music at the Superbowl, or any other big event. They must not be sh*t on that badly. I would also say we sh*t on 75% of the bands that come out. Where America supports 90% of there mainstream bands.

I wasn't using them as stats, and I used the word sh*t because you used it. Well yeah, Sherlock, of course we are not influenced by MTV as much, most of us don't get it!!!!
