I've got the Blues and Avs a clear tier above the rest of the west. The Avs are better than their record - with a +43 goal differential.

I have Dallas in there too, they're crazy defensively and good in the playoffs.
All those teams are from the Central, too.

Yup good luck against the Blues, Avs and Stars. Even a motivated hungry Flames team can take out the Canucks today.

Faulk has been OK at best
Pavelski has been not great.

The rest are accurate but Hall has been good in phoenix. Losing kuemper hurt that team more than anything.

Not without any picks, he won't.
It's going to be pretty funny if they miss the playoffs after this, and then he just walks in the offseason. Just looking at the Canucks' last 7 games, they lost 4 in a row, then beat the Predators and Blackhawks thanks entirely to their goalie stealing those games, and then put the backup in and got soundly whooped by the... Anaheim Ducks. Does that sound like a team that should be buying to make a push for the cup?
|
What happened the 7 games before that?
They went 6-1
7 before that
5-2
So in their last 21 they have 14 wins, that's not so bad, last 28 they have 18
Why did you only pick 7....
Small sample sizes are bad and can be taken to prove pretty much anything

I'm not sold on the Avs goaltending and defence.
they remind me of the Canucks without the elite goaltending.

I also think their supposed cap issues are overblown
Sutter, Pearson, and Edler are off after next season when Peterson is up, that's 14m
Year after when hughes is up, Erickson, roussell, and beagle are done, that's 12m
So by season starting 2022, when those two big deals are added, only other current contracts are miller, horvat, myers, and ferland
Ferland based on his setback friday may be done with hockey as well sadly

our scouting staff has shown they can find gems wherever pick we choose from (Hoglander 40th pick) Madden (taken late in the 4th round).
as of right now the top 9 is looking preety good
Judd Brackett will find another Tyler Madden in the next draft.

Madden was an early 3rd rounder 68th OV, not a late 4th.

|
I realise that patience tends to be thin in the NHL but drafting three candidates for the Calder Trophy including a winner three years in a row doesn't tend to get you fired, Benning could be caught hanging out at Jeffery Epstien's and not get fired.

Toffoli is crap. Of course, if the Flames had traded for him would be great. But as it is, he’s crap.

Than Toffoli re-signing? I'd love to hear your logic on that. I'd be very very shocked if this trade wasn't made with Benning having an idea one way or another what Toffoli was thinking.
Now, the type of contract he signs here might be a better idea to focus on. Benning has never been great at that part of the job.

Just after getting re-signed and having our pipe line of prospects being lauded as one of the best. For all of Benning's faults he has done a great job on that side of things. Do I like giving up Madden? Of course not. Can I live with it if Toffoli is a Canuck next season? Yes.

Hughes is up after next season, not the season after. They have to get him and Pettersson signed the same year. Unless they bridge at least one of them (which is just kicking the cap problem down the road a couple of years), that's going to cost about $20M against the cap. They're boned.
Seriously, go to capfriendly and try to make a team for next year in an $82.5M cap environment where they re-sign Toffoli (which will cost at least $5.5M for 5 years in the current market). It's possible... if Markstrom walks in UFA.
I guess they're probably happy they didn't go long term with Boeser, though. Dude was already underperforming this season, and now he's about to make it 3 straight years without even hitting the 70 game mark.
