Flames McKenzie: Flames interested in Alec Martinez

https://www.tsn.ca/nhl/video/insider...mmonds~1900123

Has a year left on his contract
Asking price is a 2nd plus a prospect of some type
Among the interested teams: Jets, Flames, Panthers, and Hurricanes - all with varying degrees of interest depending on the day you ask

Still not sure why the Flames feel the desire to add yet another LHD to the fold. Doesnt make sense.

I wonder if we don't see Toffoli and Martinez with salary retained for Bennett + a 2nd.

I would do that, but would they do that? Because I would do that if they would do that.

I think they have been circling this player for awhile which is why they are saying gios injury is week to week.

I think the plan was to move Brodie and acquire Martinez but it would not surprise me if the plan now was to acquire Martinez and toffoli in the same transaction

I was thinking acquire Martinez then trade Kylington. Like with Valimaki in the fold where does he fit in? Keep Brodie on the right side paired with Gio.

Why don't they just acquire Martinez, re-sign Brodie, and trade Hamonic/let him walk?

Keep the good players. It's not rocket surgery.

This team is going nowhere. We don't have any prospects or farm system and need about 5 good players to play at a high enough level to compete legitimately.

So, lets waste the one thing that we have to build with on another player that isn't going to make that significant of an impact.

The only way this makes any sense, we would have to go out and acquire a bunch of guys and waste our 1st + 2nd and everything else.

Maybe it’s just me but I don’t want this team to be giving up yet another 1st or 2nd round pick. Cupboards are extremely bare and this team is just not good enough, a bubble team. If they were a contender sure, but they aren’t.

Unless the plan is to recoup the high picks by getting rid of pending UFAs.

Twice. Exactly twice. Up until this past week, I was more on the optimistic side of things and looking forward who to add.

However, when they play horribly against bad teams, what is there that makes anyone confident that they can skate with teams like Boston, Tampa etc. coming up.

Because they play well against good teams? It is the crap teams they seem to lose to.

But then look at who we'd have to play in the playoffs. All of the teams in our division are lousy.

We're hooped

Exactly the symptom of a mediocre team.

I'm cool if Tree goes shopping, or puts up the for sale sign.

I just don't want inaction any longer.

Acquiring Martinez probably means Hanifin gets moved in the off-season?
