As a father, I would argue it would be way worse watching on TV and being (at least) hours away by flight.

AED's are great but they require upkeep (battery) and as simple as they are still require some degree of competence from the user. After my morning drive today and seeing the lack of common sense in more than one driver I don't know how effective they would be. I know they are practically idiot proof but everytime someone claims that they invent a better idiot.
A good one will run you $1500 and while that is cheap compared to a life it's a decent expense so mandating them everywhere is not simple.

@TSNBobMcKenzie
Blues GM Doug Armstrong says Jay Bouwmeester is doing well after his cardiac episode; doctors looking to diagnose why it occurred but prognosis positive; an AED was used to revive him; still waiting to hear on re-scheduling game but some other games may need to moved around:

CPR survival rate is less than 10 percent, AED survival rate is greater than 30 percent.
AED's are amazing.

Wow good to hear JBo is doing okay, that is super scary. His career has definitely had some big ups and downs, here's hoping for a full recovery with more ups in the future.
Well done to the medical staff and paramedics. To paraphrase Courtney Barnett: The paramedic thinks I'm clever cause I play hockey, I think she's clever cause she stops people dying.

Besides all the medical staff, EMT's and doctors, Vince Dunn deserves the most credit IMO as he was right behind JayBo when it happened and notified the staff right away.

Absolutely, I'm just commenting on making them mandatory not being a simple solution.

AEDs require upkeep, and so you provide maintenance, or hire a third party to do so. You also have to train people.
That tiny bit of work to ensure they are available, combined with an easy emergency response to bring in first responders, can save your life. On top of that, if you have a defib, you probably have other important things happening to keep people safe.
An AED is a pretty good sign other systems are in place. Lack of one is a definite sign things aren't there.

Good to hear JayBo is doing well. One of my favorite players during his time here. It was great watching him finally lift the cup last year

I am very much looking forward to Jaybo being cleared as 100% recovered, because I have heart rate jokes to make (in a nice way - I always liked him).

Note sure. But that's what I read. Will look for the article. Might have been on espn.com.

""It's a very scary situation and hockey players have died of heart attacks," said Bouwmeester's former team doctor Rick Lehman.
Trainers and doctors are who Dr. Rick Lehman said saved Bouwmeester's life Tuesday night.
"If that happens in your hotel room, you're probably going to die," added Lehman.
It's why Lehman said Bouwmeester was actually lucky this happened when it did, with doctors just feet away and his dad in the stands with the fathers of other players.
"Most heart attacks that happen in an unwitnessed situation, seven out of 10 result in death and the other three out of 10 someone finds you, calls 911 and you get revived," said Lehman.
Paramedics worked quickly to revive Bouwmeester and get him to the hospital safely.
As far as Bouwmeester's future with the Blues, it's too early to speculate, but Lehman has seen similar situations happen before.
"Every time this has happened in the NFL or NHL, the athlete has not come back," Lehmann said.
Dr. Lehmann has treated some of the biggest names in sports, including Bouwmeester as his team doctor in Tampa Bay, where he was selected as an All-Star his rookie year."

Well, with fact-checking like that, are we sure this guy is even a doctor?
