It doesn't help there isn't a big bomb at the point on the PP. The opposition knows the Flames will pass from the point, or they will shoot and it will be a muffin or miss the net.
So they let them pass it around, kill time, and maybe the Flames will throw it front for a chance, maybe two at the most.
It's not a scary PP, hasn't been for quite a while. Need a bomb/QB at the point, a net presence, and some quick movement down low. The Flames are kinda failing in every respect unless JG is on his game and making things happen down low.

I still remember when we had a 50 goal scoring RW but nobody to play with him *sigh*
I don't really know what to think of this team, do we just give up on the season or hope that we squeak in and magic happens. My biggest gripe this season is that the Flames were in a really good spot with a relatively weak Pacific division, but they haven't looked like they're very dangerous at all.
Maybe getting someone like Toffoli would help cause it slots everyone else on the right side better.

Yeah it's been a problem since the Hamilton trade as he was the last Flames defenseman that was a threat to beat goaltenders from the point. Not easy to acquire guys like Hamilton, Burns, Weber, etc. Treliving will just have to keep plugging away at the draft in hopes of finding a defenseman with a good point shot that commands attention on the powerplay.

That's on point. Gio isn't shooting like he used to and we haven't replaced Hamilton.
Point shots, even when missed create confusion for the dmen, good opportunities for the down low plays and rebounds. But the other problem is that the flames Fs don't crash the net enough. Monahan is the only one consistently lurking near the net. That's not enough.

I said it last week but for this Flames team there is no such thing as an easy game. There are no easy wins. They have to battle every night and come prepared for a fight to get a point or two.

I was stupid enough to think this team had fully turned a corner. No excuses for this mediocre effort

Taking a while to get to 5000

Disappointing to be sure but at least they get a chance at immediate redemption tonight.
In Anaheim.
Crap?

I much prefer the flames face adversity now in the season opposed to game 4 of the first round. Just don't let the suck cost us a playoff spot.

I've never thought that a bubble team can truly "turn a corner" over a few games. It would take a month of inspired hockey to show me the Flames swagger is back.

This is the other (and I think bigger) problem though, unless the rebound is straight to someone in the slot we are not desperate enough to win the battles and too often it results in the other team easily icing the puck. No tenacity, no do what it takes.

Flames looked like a team that were missing their best defensive Dmen. Bad pinches and give aways by forwards. As Hartley would say, they looked like a bakery, Turnovers everywhere.

And dressing a guy in his first NHL game. I think Davidson makes more sense right now than Yelesen. I think maybe they figured to play Yelesin against a team that struggles to score, and in fact, the Kings failed to convert a few of his mistakes, so it was probably as good a team as any to try him on. He needs to work on the game a bit. It's too quick for him.
Stone looked like a guy who's sat half the games this year too.

I mentioned in the GT, but man has their faceoff % fallen off a cliff. We were 3rd overall last year and sitting at 25th this year. Almost a 4% difference.

Mainly Backlund, Jankowski and IIRC Lindholm was a lot better. Monahan and Ryan are still holding their own. Backs and Janko are really bad this year.

That’s fair. I have thought this was not really a bubble team and actually a really good team that was underachieving largely due to the top players not producing like the elite players they were last year.
It is pretty clear they are just a bubble team so I agree they need to roll for a month to change my mind going forward
