Not sure I would have paid that price for Zucker.

I'm sure befuddled by the fascination with him here. LHS, almost always LW IIRC, smallish, scores at a historic rate like Backlund at best. 4 goals in 31 PO games.
Don't get fooled if he scores a few more than usual there. I would too, playing with Crosby.

I don’t think that is the equivalent. Galchenyuk is a UFA where Bennett has a year left on his deal and is then RFA. Addison is a prospect and Kylington is a NHL player. I guess that is why you change the 1st to maybe a 2nd?

I consider Galchenyuk and Bennett the same regardless of free agency status. Galchenyuk, while a disappointment, has had a much better career thus far than Bennett. Addison is still a great prospect, hence why I changed the 1st to a conditional 2nd/1st depending on playoff performance. But, Kylington is much better at this point. So, I suppose that offsets the difference between Bennett and Galchenyuk.
Regardless, I would be pretty pissed if the Flames had done this.

Agreed with the overall point.
Definitely disagree with the Bennett-Galchenyuk comparison as if that trade went down one for one it would have been a brutal deal for Calgary. I get Galchenyuk had a 30 goal season but has had multiple off ice issues and is now on his 4th team in less than 3 years.
Imo he was a salary dump in this deal and I see his value closer to Frolik’s as he will probably get traded for a 3-5th round pick in 2 weeks unless he had a renaissance in Minny

I don't watch the Wild play hockey much if at all, but I don't quite get the appeal either. But it's not just here, look at what the Pens gave up.
To me that shows the price of acquiring coveted players with term on their contract. That's why I'm not necessarily against trading for an expiring contract and work on signing him if it works out at all.

Agree to disagree.
I do think we can agree that this was too hefty of a price for Calgary.

Bennett's value not too much different than this IMO.
I suppose he hasn't had his "change of scenery" yet, so it could be a bit higher.

If you are right then there is no way the Flames trade Bennett. I still think a former top 5 pick who is only 23 and can play with some grit is worth significantly more than a 3rd-5th round pick.

I was insinuating, based on our rumored offering for Zucker in comparison to what the Penguins paid, that we would have had enough to make an offer for Dumba had Fenton still been the GM.

He was top ten in scoring and wrecked his knee in Dec 2016, then his career fell off a cliff. Not sure if he just didn't want to work hard enough to get his knee back to where it should be or if he was just more interested in life off the ice.

Don't see any chance Galchenyuk gets moved. Doubt many teams are eager to pony up much and Minnesota might be content to just see how he fits and potentially get a cost effective if things turn out positively.

Another Canes fan checking in. Addison is a heck of a player, let alone the Pens adding a 1st.
Glad the Flames didn't give up a package like that.

I feel like taking Galchenyuk was like "Sure, we'll take him but you have to sweeten the pot"

I think he was a cap dump too that only increased the return.

I would much much rather have JT Miller for what the Canucks paid, which is about the same.

Missing out on Zucker with salary retained for a 2019 1st round pick (26th overall) and Frolik is an all-time fumble for the Flames.
Based on what the flames were being asked to give up, it's worse than missing out on Ben Bishop because Ken King was on a plane.
Absolutely atrocious.
