I think he's having a bad year.
Whether that's the start of a decline or just a bad year - we'll find out.
I don't think it's effort
And I happen to know he loves Calgary.

Add to the fact he hasn't had the same line-mates probably adds tot he struggle.

Wasn't trying to make you sick; nothing wrong with my opinion. He hasn't played well and from my post I said "seemed" like he didn't want to be here. Whether this constitutes false narrative is up for interpretation.

This might be a win-win for both teams.

Considering the teams involved, that would be the worst possible outcome.
Or the best.
It would be hard to hate Bennett.

It would be the worst trade ever made by the Flames.

The funny thing is every player explodes next to McDavid and then cashes in

Step 1 - Trade player to Oil
Step 2 - Player explodes with McD
Step 3 - Oilers overpay that player
Step 4 - Repeat from the top

Nuttin' wrong with that.

Even with Gio, this team is middling. Don't change your plans just because of an injury to him. This smacks of a GM not knowing where his team is at.

It's middling by the way, in case you weren't sure.

WHat is adding a depth defensemen going to do to help this team win a Stanley Cup in the future? Nothing.

For the record, i'm all for re-signing Brodie and trading Hamonic, but if there's a good hockey trade out there for Brodie and IF Brodie is not intent on re-signing, then there's no point in holding onto him just because of the Gio injury. Gio will be back but the bigger issue is asset management. You don't throw an asset (Brodie) away just because another one got injuried.
 |
Hanifin - Hamonic
Stone - Andersson
Davidson - Kylington

That is your defense if you trade Brodie while Giordano is injured.

Many times trades get put on hold due to injury and then happen again later on.

I just hate to see it. A player who we know for a fact loves it here, getting talked about like that.

The sad part is a lot of people will read and believe the vocal minority without knowing any better, whether they are just a newer fan to the team, a younger generation, or just don’t follow the team as close and occasionally come here for opinions.

To think that there’s a subsection of our fan base that thinks Backlund doesn’t want to play in Calgary is a sad thing, it makes me sad. It’s wrong. Period.

Yet there was more dialog, Jiri says he knows for a fact Backlund loves to play here. Jiri knows me well enough. If you know me well enough I am like that that. I like to bring up content that makes people think, look or ponder.

Brodie may still be moved but Gio's injury makes it harder for the Flames to deal him

Dreger: Bennett's name has been out there a long time.
Flames are not shopping him and don't want to trade him
Bennett may want a change of scenery. Wants to prove that he can be a top 6 forward
 |
This is what I was afraid of. This team has absolutely no business changing its plans. I don’t care if Gio is hurt. RW is still the #1 priority on this team. I like Tree but if he picks up another D to fill in for Gio without adding a top-6 RW, I’ll be done.

This isn’t a playoff team even with Gio in the lineup. Trying to replace him instead of staying focused on our biggest need should be a fireable offence.

Option 1 we trade Brodie land an extra 1st and our 1st goes from 12 to 8.

Option 2 we keep Brodie and draft 12th.

I don't want any RW's that are 'easily' available right now.

I think it would be great if he could pick up a relatively young RD with term. Then he can trade Brodie and Hamonic now, then Hanifin this summer.

Of course, I've long ago emotionally disconnected from the idea of any playoff success this year. If we make it in and are able to do anything, it's like found money for me.

I still think Bennett will break out somewhere else.
All the underlying stats point that way, very similar to Domi and Lindholm before they were moved.

He needs to be given a run with a more talented two way center and I bet he will break out.
