There's no way you can watch that game and say everything was ok except the coaching.

I would be over the moon if the Flames could just switch the coach up and everything fell into place. Sign me up. I'll fire Ward myself if they want me to.

Unfortunately, there are larger issues at play. Namely, the 'best' players on this team routinely now for about a year not being the best players on the team. Almost every single game now. Not only are they not the Flames best players consistently, they are now hurting this team. Specifically Gaudreau and Monahan. They aren't the only two, but the two biggest culprits.

Tough to watch them refuse to play desperate hockey nightly, to watch them glide around, be lazy when going back to the bench for a line chance, for just not being the best players when their team desperately needs them to.

They aren't the only problem. Just the biggest one. If the Flames can upgrade their coaching then I am fine with that. But until the best players on this team start playing like the best players on a consistent basis and play with an ounce of desperation and intensity then a coaching change is going to change a whole bunch of nothing.

Rather go nuts then 'onward and upward'.

Interesting how this team had 1 glaring hole under Peters and now 2-3 Glaring holes under Ward.

Before someone corrects me, yes I know the 04 Flames weren't the 8-seed, I screwed up initially. Sorry about that, original post edited.

But yep, go get Darryl please. I think he'd be the perfect coach for Johnny.

So many low danger perimeter shots. I agree with those that are comparing this to Gulutzan hockey and its painful to watch.

I mean, he's an interim coach. He's there to be replaced. The team is approaching free fall. Something has to give, right?

Saturday is Vancouver. Ordinarily they have a shot but with the Flames playing as they are and how Markstrom usually plays the Flames? Well, ####.

I’m mad because for 3 home games we haven’t had “the turn” and the ATL. That’s bollocks, Flames.

And what is going on with those lines at the end of the game when we have last change?

Are we ignoring how the team played under Peter's this year before he was dismissed and ward took over?

There wasn't a whistle for the last 4 minutes or so, was there? Last change doesn't matter without a faceoff.

This franchise is absolute garbage. Every damn year it’s the same. So called “core” players wouldn’t be more than second liners on most teams right now. I wish they could be sent to the minors. They’re not even interesting! Boring pop gun offence, soft defence (especially with Gio out) and most nights, questionable goaltending.

So if they’ve decided they’re done for the year, I wish they’d at least go out with a bit of a fight instead of having to pay to watch this crap.

And this probably isn’t even the bottom of the barrel, they will get absolutely destroyed in Vancouver Saturday night.

Sorry but this is beyond frustrating and I don’t see any light at the end of the tunnel. This team has zero chance of ever competing for a cup with this crew.

This is why we need a NHL capable HC.

Bob Hartley was fired less than a year later, regular season trophies don't excite me.

Well that was a pretty classic Flames effort this season.

They definitely had their moments where they had a bit of opportunity but for the most part it was tons of perimeter play, a lot of fruitless shots from the point and, as per usual, very little generated off the rush. I see a collection of players not executing as a team.

I couldn't keep track of how many battles they lost or races to the puck they lost.

Gaudreau, Monahan, Tkachuk, Lindholm and Backlund are the ones with the lions share of the minutes and are playing a very weak brand of perimeter hockey. It seems almost game by game one of those 5 are trying to out do the other in how ineffective they can be. Tkachuk, tonight with a couple selfish plays holding onto the puck too long and making moves with the puck where I don't even think he knew what he was planning to do with it, rather than simply pass the puck to a teammate. But for tonight's most ineffective Flame it goes to #23. Honestly it's hard to even comment on Monahan tonight, 1 shot on goal and that was truly it; arguably one of the most forgettable games in his entire career. I cannot think of a single thing he did right tonight.

Their negative goal differential was going to catch up to them and their luck was going to turn at some point, I suspect this is the moment. How this team is even fighting for a playoff position in the first place is beyond me.

I totally get playing the hot hand in situations like this, but when Reider is the best option...Woof.

It's not like the top guys were tired, they haven't had a solid effort in over a month.
