Problem is, I don't think the Flames have the depth to be able to run a remix of Brodie-Engelland / Russell-Wideman. Might be time to sell and see if you can still squeak in.

I hope Treliving takes a similar approach with that deadline where he sold Glencross and Baertschi for picks which allowed them to wheel and deal at the draft.
Valimaki coming back could help but that won’t be for a couple weeks o suspect at the least.
Make a hockey trade at the deadline if you can Treliving otherwise sell off. If they make it they make it and if not major surgery this summer on the roster.

Problem is that an injury to Gio gives the weak willed team a reason to give up. They don't seem like a team that's going to rally.

He probably said it out loud.
I've torn my hamstring twice about 8 weeks apart. The first time it happens you are pretty sure it is a torn hamstring, the second time you do it you know for sure.
No way he has forgotten that feeling.

Treliving is suppose to have stronger autonomy that he largely runs the show doesn't he?
But lets say it is ownership prerogative, then the owners are stupid since they're not seeing the bigger picture and missing out on the possibility of more revenue that's sustained over a longer period of time.
Just barely skimming by to get two, maybe three games of home playoff games at best is leaving a lot of cash on the table, when you could be getting at least several home games per season if you build a strong enough roster that's cup contenders quality. You're making a lot more money if you continuously have your season make it to May at the minimum.
You would hope owners are more focused on building a team that can do that, rather than just make the playoffs and foolishly hope for the best. It hasn't worked for decades.

I agree 100%
I'm just saying it's more likely the GM has the "this roster just doesn't work and I'd have a better chance of making change if I sold some assets and added more picks to work with" then the ownership group.

Since Edwards took over, the history of Flames ownership meddling in the operations of the team is well attested. I don't have any difficulty at all believing Flames GMs have been given marching orders to do what they need to do to win a Cup with Iggy, get into the playoffs, etc.
It sucks. Because at least with an impatient GM you can hold out hope of replacing him with a more far-sighted GM. But Murray Edwards isn't going anywhere, so it is what it is (which is why the Flames franchise is what it is).

The day after the trade deadline passes would be my guess. Definitely not putting it out there when you are trying to make trades, only drives up costs. Kinda like when he tore his bicept close to the trade deadline. He dressed and took a twirl on the ice before the game, was ruled a scratch as a game time decision, and then had surgery a week or so later, after the deadline.

Taking a while to get to 5000
|
Worse yet, if I had to guess, the GM has sold ownership on how he thinks the team should play in order to win and ownership is clearly on board with him (given the extension) and his plan, thus we see coaches being hired that mirror how Treliving thinks the team should play and of course the construction of the team with players that he thinks fits that mold.
Enjoy!

Has anyone actually seen figures that show how much the club makes per every playoff game, home and away?

Dunno but Freidman said last week that it's a very big deal financially to even just make the POs.

This sucks, but the Flames have been over due for an injury, they have been extraordinarily healthy this season.
I just hope this isn't so serious that it harms the remainder of Gio's career.

Last I heard it was about $1.3MM per home game, but that was a while ago. Also, home teams used to keep all the playoff gate revenue. Now there is sharing to a certain degree.

Gotta be way more then that... I mean weren't nosebleeds like $120 last year? If you assume an average price of say $250 that's about five million per game + whatever they get in concession and onsite sales.

Flames community makes this team to be a one man team - either everything shoulders on the captain or the goalie.

I know you said a while ago, but that was about 15 years ago or so IIRC.
Here's an article that mentions generating 50 million for Nashville (the city not the team) in 11 home games from Tennessee that speaks to players and the community and what they benefit from playoff time (no mention of the team itself).
"The Predators' two-month playoff run, which culminated with a six-game loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins in the Stanley Cup Final last month, brought invaluable exposure to the franchise.
It also financially benefited Nashville, which city officials said last month generated $50 million from the 11 playoff games at Bridgestone Arena and surrounding events."

When you pull your hammy, you know immediately. The only question is the degree. And you have a good idea when it happens to someone in front of you too. "Pulled hammy?" "F yeah." "What happened?" "Tore my hammy." There's your source.

Actually, I heard him shout something along the lines of "cramping, or hamstring" from my seats across the ice. It was a bit muffled that far, but we are the first seats directly above the player walkway to the bench so there are a few feet of no glass between us and the ice. Very conceivably could have been "hamstring"

I actually forgot he tore it in 2011 (it took him what - a month to come back). I only remembered his arm injury from 2015.
ETA: Gio's injuries are always weird - his hamstring and his arm and this one were on nothing plays.
