As a fan that was embarrassing. How the hell does anyone from Treliving, down through Ward and nearly every player on the roster look at themselves in the mirror today and feel right about cashing their paychecks. That was some of the worst hockey I have endured in the dome in years. Disgraceful. This team needs an overhaul, from behind the bench and out. I was always critical of Glue gun not knowing when to call a timeout. That would have been after the second goal in 1:10 last night Ward.

This team is pathetic. It wasn't Lucic fault that we lost. The defence was abysmal but that also says something about the offence in our zone. It's up to them to stop the opposition before the last line of defence. I'm tired of the support for Gaudreau. He's supposed to be our superstar. He's never going to be dominant like he was initially. Trade him as soon as we can. Those of you who think this was a good game to watch are more interested in fights than watching good hockey. If this team makes the playoffs it will just mean a few more dollars for the owners before we get our butts kicked.

This team gets absolutely pummeled in the first round.

Hire. A. Legit. NHL. Head. Coach.
|
This. Not only hire a real coach, but I believe it's time to rid of the whole coaching staff.

Do you think Tre has earned the right to fix the team he built?

I do. Maintain consistency within the higher ranks. I think when you look at the body of work overall, he's proven to be a solid GM.
I stick with him.

This really underscores that Ward is not cut out of the job even if the roster is lacking.
The goal differential the Flames have (in #1 WC spot currently despite being -17!?!? Are you kidding me?) is going to eventually catch up to the Flames, and they are gonna be on the outside looking in. I really hope Treliving understands that the team and coaching staff is incredibly flawed, and is smart this deadline in looking to sell players that aren't part of the long term solution to the team.

The team needs to make a couple of decisions in the coming weeks, that largely hinge on whether or not the GM thinks they can actually do anything in the playoffs.
Based on that
- What is the probability that Brodie re-signs and for what. I'd like to see him back, but you need that clarity and need to make a call in the next few weeks on whether to trade him
- What can you get for Hamonic on the trade market
- Do any other vets hold some value
- Do guys like Bennet and Janko hold any value? If not hang on to them.
The core changes should wait until the summer, at which point the list of untouchables is indeed very small.
I'm warming up to a blueprint that sees the team trade Johnny and sign Hall. (I've obviously been on the trade Johnny train for a while, but Hall I have mixed signals on)
|
Agree with everything but Hall, he will be overpaid and is a left shot. No 10M wingers please.

Trelivings biggest errors have been his coaching decisions and July 1 signings. I think he is near the end of his rope.

He just signed an extension less than 6 months ago. That doesn't sound like a guy near the end of his rope.

Lucic was a desperation move. The type you make when you're at the end of your rope.

I'm amazed at a lot of things.
Why Hanifin and Hamonic are still gogether, when they just make each other worse and can't handle the load.
Why Dube (LHS, underwhelming) is still up while Czarnik (RHS, was having a solid season) is still down.
Why Rieder and Lucic are roster locks. Neither brings anything to the table most nights and again, both are LHS.
Why Sam Bennett isn't on a power unit, when the PP2 featuring Ryan, Bennett, Andersson was a strength of ours last year.
Why Monahan and Gaudreau are not split up, when they haven't had real chemistry in ages, like maybe not since 2017.
Why Mark Giordano is still the PPQB when he's not generating anything this year. Even Rasmus Andersson makes more sense.
There are things that can't be criticized. Backlund's down year has been a huge issue because he is still our best option as 2C when he is confident. Giordano's down year has been a huge issue because we need his offense from the backend. But the issues that I am criticizing needed to be addressed ages ago.
Ward is a worse coach than Gulutzan in my opinion, and that's saying a lot because Gully sucked. I'd honestly have more confidence in Gully right now because at least his Xs and Os led to us outshooting teams, even if there was a certain listlessness to the offensive approach.
Hartley won because of his ability to keep penalties down.
Peters won because we were actually a good team under him, at least last year.
Gulutzan somehow stumbled into the playoffs one year.
Ward somehow feels worse than every single one, and not a single one of those first three guys was a "good coach" the way a Peter Laviolette is.

Not really. As has been outlined in the past - the mistake wasn't Lucic. The mistake was Neal. The team seemed intent on moving on from him, and for whatever reason a buyout wasn't an option. So the only way to move him was to bring back a similarly bad contract.
All makes sense to me.
Again the mistake was Neal.
Also noting he signed his extension AFTER the Lucic deal.

Fan 960 explained the rationale for why Czarnik was not called up. I can’t remember the reasoning but it had nothing to do with performance and more about logistics off the ice to make it work at the moment.
Someone smarter than me (see: anyone) can probably clarify.

Yup, totally agreed. Draisaitl is one of the biggest babies of them all- has a lot to say in front of the microphones but not involved in any of the rough stuff. Just stick to scoring pal, you are not tough.
First the comment about getting off the ice on the all star game if Tkachuk is on the ice, crying at its finest. Now waits until they smash us and Rittich gets lit up, then chimes in about the stick flip being disrespectful. He's like those oiler trolls that show up on game threads only when they win.
