I was wondering if anybody would join me on this one. Stop putting cinnamon in pizza sauces. Happy to die on this hill.

Our go-to is usually Spiros, but have been having Sophies more often lately. We're often in Marda Loop on Friday evenings and will also pick up Volos on the way home. Might give Jeanne's a shot this weekend.

There is a wide variance of opinion and in this thread. I really like Spiros and Sophie’s (and Volos, for that matter), but they are quite different from Andaros. Thicker, cheesier style whereas Andaros is more thin crust. For proximity to Aspen, Andaros in Couger Ridge is much closer.

I can't believe this thread is going to make me try Domino's again.

Make sure you ask for well done. Extra cheese also counts as one topping, if that's your jam. It's crappy fast food, but the value is great for price.

Dominoes changed their recipe a couple years ago, and now it's actually decent pizza. For the price you pay and for it being one of the big box retailers, it's actually pretty good. If I need a late night slice of pizza, Dominoes it is. Anyone who trashes it probably hasn't had it recently.

Their thin crust is better than merely passable. I rate is as "good".
As far as the mega chains go, Dominos is my go to. Plus the value is incredible.

My only gripe with dominos beyond "you get what you pay for" is extra cheese is a bit of a baseline requirement. Not sure if that's chain-wide or just my location.

I have to say I still like Chicago Deep Dish here in the deep south of Calgary. I also tried the New York Pizzaria in Cranston, thumbs up. One place you would never think of having good pizza is a Shisha lounge, both locations of Cafe Med, one on 17th Ave SW and the old location on 1st between 11th and 10th Ave SW, great pizza.

For those in the NW, there’s a place in Hidden Valley called ‘Pizza 22’ which is quite good. It’s changed ownership a couple times over the years but the pizza has seemingly remained the same. Looks like they won a couple accolades for the 2019 pizza pig out thing as well including best ‘all meat’ pizza. It’s kind of a dumpy hole in the wall visually, but it’s been a good consistent place for us up in Kincora for a good number of years now.

I get a craving for Chicago Deep Dish about once a year but it has to be the "original" one with the 531-3131 number. The copycats are way worse.

Great crust and cheese, but I wish they weren't trying so hard with their topping combos.
Eg:
• Peaches, Prosciutto, Brick Cheese, Blue Cheese, Crema di Balsamico, Gorgonzola Mousse
• Potato + Cauliflower Curry, Fresh Red Onion, Brick Cheese, Yogurt + Cilantro Sauce
• Chili, Tortilla Chips, Red Onion, Cheddar and Brick Cheese, Guacamole Mousse
Last time I tried it, instead of getting the Pepperoni I ordered (with it's already fancy Wagyu pepperoni), they accidentally sent me some sort of Hawaiian hybrid that replaced the ham with braised pork. I tried giving it a shot, but after a while I had to scoop out the pork to make it edible.
At the very least I wish they had a few more basic options. A basic pep/mushroom or Hawaiian in a Detroit Style pizza would be awesome.
|
I haven't got the guts to try the peaches one, they should offer 1 slice samplers when you order a full size pizza, I'd love to try a bite of the peaches one before committing to a whole pie.
The potato pizza is actually really good but it's such a strong flavour that it is a bit much after a couple of pieces.
Haven't been there in awhile, might have to go and try that taco sounding one, that sounds really good!
I did try the Hawaiian one and didn't like it at all, too much mushy pork, as others have said it would have probably been amazing with some thick cut smoked ham or something.

We had it for Superbowl as described in this thread.
While not the best pizza I've ever had is was very tasty and great value for the price. Lots of cheese and lots of toppings.

for those that are willing to sign up for the daily deals from domino's, papa johns etc as there can be great deals.
a week agao we got a large, medium and small pies from dominos for $21 (plus $3 for extra sauce). The pizza's also had extra cheese on them.
I don't think you could get 3 deliciouso za's for that price.
