Let it go, you constant whining has ruined a good discussion about the game.

I just saw a story on TSN.ca where Dave Tippet says there was nothing malicious about the play. No penalty (probably could have been an interference call IMO), no league review, no suspension, McDavid's own coach didn't think it was anything over the line. What's the big deal again?

I'm thinking we can link him to the Kennedy assassination at this point.

Glad to see that CPers are letting Oiler trolls out for their mid-season break, feeding them well and enabling them to totally derail a victory celebration.
Oh well, it's their compensation for having a crappy hockey team that decided a goon is worth $3.2 million a year for four years. Dumb them!
(But...stop engaging guys...)

Exactly this.
McDavid plays a very high risk style of game. It certainly doesn’t help that the Oilers over play him.
He is fearless when it comes weaving around hits at full speed and minimal space, but it also increases the risk for unintentional sloppy contact. There was nothing malicious about Giordano’s play. A lesser player than McDavid would have been hit cleanly, but McDavid is so erratic and easy for a defender to miscalculate.
Seeing McDavid whine so hard was hilarious though. Is there a harder whiner in the whole league? Maybe Doughty comes close.
Can someone tell me what post is the ATL?

It's such a mind####. And their last 10 record is better than both the Canucks and Oilers who have been winning frequently of late. Goes without saying it has felt like a much less impressive stretch than that. I think the Habs and Senators performances just overshadowed everything around those games because those were such frustrating losses to witness.

This was such a fun game to watch. One of those rare times where the hype lives up to expectations. That OT was nuts. If more games were like this the NHL would fill every building every night.

Hey!
It's not Gio's fault that McDavid has knees! That's totally on him, and the Oilers.

Having had time to digest one of if not the most entertaining game I can remember,
The Gio "knee" can be looked at many different ways but at the end of the day, what actually transpired is all that matters, not what could have or what some may deem intent to be.
Gio could have been called on the interference but wasn't. If you call that, you have to call McDavid on the 2 hand against Hamonic right after. This doesn't solve anyone's problem and likely hurts the Oilers having McDavid off for 2 minutes more than the flames having Gio off for 2. In the end, the calls favored the Oilers and I see the Gio "knee" as an irrelevant discussion to the game.
Gio did have his leg further out than normal and could have easily kneed him if the timing was slightly different but he didn't. McDavid is unlike any player in the league and at his speed, I suspect this happens to him more than any other player. It is an instinctual play in a moment the D man rarely encounters.
Really impressed with Tkachuk dropping the gloves and it pains me to say it but equally impressed with Kassians response that the fight put everything to bed. I guessed (wrong) that it was Tkachuk who would want to go later in a period which gives Tkachuk the opportunity to recover, get stitched up or whatever may need to happen as the 5 minutes rolls into an intermission. He didn't just hold on and "pay his tab" either. He went for a couple big shots himself!
