Before that 1st Oilers goal Rieder had a great opportunity to clear the puck from the D zone, but instead sloppily turned it over right to Nurse. That led to extra O zone time for the Oilers.
Then one of the Flames iced the puck when trying to pass it to Rieder, who got taken down by an Oiler D-man.
Then Rieder gets beat on the faceoff clean as a whistle, which leads to that quick strike 1st Oiler goal where Hamonic & Buddy couldn't react in time after Rieder's comprehensive faceoff fail to stop it.

Thank goodness for Rittich’s performance and Mangiapane for finally burying those beauties. Rittich is an absolute champ for that stick flip. Loved it.
Thought Hanifin was really bad though. Questionable questionable decision making, lack of detail especially with McDavid on the ice. Obviously getting schooled by Benning was also a pretty pathetic display. Personally, I’m not sure if he’ll ever figure this part out.
|
Flames were the stronger team in the first, also came out in the second. Then a series of weak and questionable calls balanced with non-calls let the Oilers Officially rally back for the next little bit, not without the Flames bringing some high offensive lights out, almost goals despite like 4 penalties in a row.

He’s made mistakes like that his entire career and does not seem to be learning. Far too casual and timid, slow to react and misreads attacking threats consistently. He does some things well but his overall impact leads much to be desired imo, just can’t seem to control games or play with poise. Worst of all, his weaknesses flood out when the pressure’s on. I get flashbacks of last playoffs whenever I see him fail to defend a rush.

Reider is a complete waste of a roster spot. Quine would be much better.

Don’t know and really don’t care what Brodie’s fancy stats were, but he was excellent tonight

Fine. But he was also put against McDavid a bit and dealt with it, killed penalties well and played well in limited time after that. Plus I’m not sure how the icing is on him when got interfered with.
The zone clearances were the Flames’ worst plays in general tonight, by several guys, including Tkachuk, Backlund, and a few others.

It wasn’t egregious but Giordano has a deserved reputation for sticking out his leg. He’s not dirty or trying to hurt anyone, but he does it from time to time when he’s beat. I’m sure it’s an impulse for him.

Hanifin’s play was the one that was the one mistake that really sticks out for me as out of the ordinary. Even if he has a decision to make - is Benning cutting back or going wide, you defend the middle. If Benning goes wide, there’s time to react plus he’s now been funnelled to the corner. Gaudreau wishes Dmen would play him like that.

Oilers have already rallied up a 7 page Kneeordano thread on the HFmainboard. Figures, they needed something to cling to.

Are you talking about Monahan's shot that dribbled just past the line? That was not a goal. The referees did look at it, and it was clearly not in. There is no controversy here.
