As a species, there can be no doubt now that we’ve lost our collective mind. Kraken?? GTFO

Kraken is a somewhat conveniently countable noun, so why not KrakenS?

So, does Detroit lose its league-wide monopoly on throwing dead octopuses on ice?

People complaining about Seattle’s lack of connection to the name... who cheer for a team named after a Confederate city being burned to the ground in a different nations’s civil war...
Kraken is a great name! Great Rum too! Plus tentacles on EVERYTHING, and all sorts of pirate tie ins. What’s not to like?!
Going to be awesome!

'Kraken' is the kind of name a minor league baseball team comes up with.

Not what I would have picked. I guess there is some desire for the name to sound cool or edgy or ferocious or something.
But the teams with the greatest traditions don't have names like that. Canadiens, Maple Leafs, Bruins, Yankees, Dodgers, Cubs, Cowboys, Celtics, Lakers. The list goes on.
Something like this gets dated quickly. I feel like it already is.

It’s okay I guess. Sounds weird but good logo potential. I would have gone with Seattle Squids which rolls off the tongue easier while still allowing a cool tentacle logo.

Also this is basically Toronto Raptors 2.0. Picking a name that is currently trendy in pop culture but has little relevance to the city and gets old quickly.

While there is only one mythical Kraken, I believe the plural of Kraken would still be Kraken

And yet the Raptors brand is one of the hottest commodities in the country in 2020.

So cheeseball, I don't think it flows well with "Seattle" either when you say it together. I also still think Golden Knights is terrible, I just call them Vegas.
EDIT: Also regarding Calgary's name, true it's based on a Confederate city burning down.. but to be fair, Calgary also had a rich history of burning down too (dry, windy cities made of wood are good for that). There's a reason they finally switched to sandstone.

I think Kraken is fine.
Leaves room for design creativity. Pretty unique in general.
Half the team has red/white/black colours. I doubt Seattle will fall into the group.

They’re the reigning NBA champions for the first time in their history. They could be called the Toronto Dildos and they’d still be a hot commodity.

As long as their fans are called Krak-heads, it will be okay.
I don't know if that would be infringing on the Oilers' fan base, who are a bunch of meth-heads.
