I see zero reason to have Janko in over Rinaldo.

Not that it'll effect the outcome either way.

Toronto has zero team toughness though so it’s probably a good of a game as any to let the human butterfly Janko back in for a try.
To the bolded, I agree. Too bad for a guy that is probably playing his last season in this league. Not many opportunities left for family to watch him live.

But in the end, wins are what matters most and must be Wards focus.

if you are in and out of the lineup like Rinaldo, it comes with the territory. Yeah, it must be disappointing for him but when you are in his position, it might be wise not to spend a ton of money on tickets for family and friends on the chance you may be playing (or maybe not mention it in an interview)

It's one thing to come out of the lineup because your team is trying to field the best lineup. But to have it be for Jankowski. That's gotta hurt.

As it is my "another year around the sun" day, I expect the Flames to pull out a massive 7-3 win! Or more like Leafs 3 - Flames 7 because despite what people tell me, I'm not almost dead.

LET'S GO FLAMES!!

If you're going to play Jankowski & Bennett together at least call up Czarnik as that trio actually has history of playing well together. Give them all the best chance to succeed.

I will donate $50 to CP if Janko scores 2 or more goals tonight

It will be disappointing if the Flames can't exploit that defense group.

Jankowski getting showcased here. Maybe he’ll stay in TO, while the rest of the team heads to Ottawa?

RE #Flames decision to play Mark Jankowski tonight in Toronto. The Maple Leafs have Matthews, Tavares and last change. You can't have a winger centring your fourth line in that sort of scenario, methinks.

Yeah sucks for Rinaldo, oh by the way Zac, please put your face and head on the line on Jan 29 when you fight Kassian and protect our star.

In this case, it's better to sit Reider and let Rinaldo play in front of his family.

I don’t really get why the organization refuses to try Bennett at C.

How detrimental can he be as the #4C?

He already takes the most draws for the line, and Rieder and Jankowski are constantly healthy scratches.

Bennett has been so unproductive as a winger since his rookie year I just don’t see how it could be any worse than having Janko/Rieder centre the line.

Play him there for 5 games:

Gaudreau-Monahan-Backlund
Tkachuk-Lindholm-Mangiapane
Lucic-Ryan-Dube
Rieder-Bennett-Rinaldo

He succeeded as a centre in junior and was ranked #1 overall in the draft rankings.

Year one get him acclimatized by playing LW with Backlund and Frolik - he gets 18G, 18A.

The following years throw him all around the lineup as a LWer and RWer primarily playing with bottom 6 bums instead of putting him in a similar situation, as a 2nd line LWer, or putting him as #3C..

I know a lot of the struggles rest on Bennett’s shoulders but man why not do a bit better job developing him for frigg sakes.

Now you watch him play he isn’t even moving his feet at all times, hounding on the puck like he used to.

He’s just gotten so stale here it’s a travesty to watch.

Put Backlund on the wing and to fill the gap throw Rieder in as the 4th line centre but Benny can take the draws.. like wtf?

Perhaps it's just because I don't follow the Leafs and therefore am not familiar with some of their lesser-known players, but it appears the have the opposite problem the Flames do: fantastic RW depth and forgettable LW players.

I recall Backlund being able to play some Center.

I used to go to this game at the ACC here in Toronto since moving here 15 hears ago. Unfortunately, have missed the last 3 years. Flames usually lose the game here, so I'm haven't been disappointed by the decision.

Should be an interesting game. Flames better win, as the Ottawa game is a guaranteed 'no show' by this team, given that they will have so many possible excuses to lean on (afternoon game, last game of road trip, last game before the break, etc, etc) and if there's one thing we know about this team, it's that if there's an excuse to stumble in a game, they are sure to use it.

Mikheyev being out long-term really hurts their LW depth.

But otherwise, you're right, their left wings are quite poor. Hence their potential interest in Sam Bennett.
