I think I'll actually watch this year's ASG, at least the skills competition anyways. I think BSD has the perfect personality type to make an ASG entertaining. Hope he's not too overwhelmed by his first time there with all the good players, and just be's his normal charming self.

Honestly I think it'd be hilarious if they make Keith Tkachuk the All-Star game coach
He's one of the most recognizable faces of St.Louis hockey playing over 9 seasons there.
His son is on the team.
It would make McDavid and Draisaitl cry even more.

His wife might be sad they miss Mexico. But come contract time his agent should be able to leverage a couple more bucks during negotiations by having an ''all-star'' client and I'm sure he'll be able to make it up to her.
Honestly couldn't have happened to a better dude on the team.

I'm not particularly up on what's in the standard ELC, but isn't being named to the All Star Game one of the rookie bonuses he'd earn? And, if so, isn't Hughes playing the ASG a bad thing for Vancouver's cap situation this / next year?

Yes, he will be eligible to get a bonus for playing in the ASG, but he was likely going to max out his performance bonuses anyway, so it doesn't really make a difference for the Canucks' cap situation.
